AppXen n8n is a production-ready, self-hosted deployment of n8n - the open-source workflow automation tool - packaged by AppXen on a hardened Ubuntu 24.04 base. It runs from first boot with automatic HTTPS (Caddy, with Let's Encrypt for your own domain or a self-signed certificate by default), a durable PostgreSQL backing store (not SQLite), basic-auth admin access, a firewall (ufw), and unattended security updates.

Launch the instance, browse to it over HTTPS, and retrieve your auto-generated admin credentials. You pay by the hour for the compute size you run this self-hosted workflow automation appliance on. Three instance sizes are available: t3.large, t3.medium, and t3.small. These are not feature tiers; they differ by the underlying compute capacity you select. Larger sizes cost more per hour because they provide more resources. You pick the size that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run it. AWS EC2 charges apply separately and are not included in these hourly rates.

What compute resources do the t3.large, t3.medium, and t3.small hourly options provide?
Each option maps to an AWS EC2 instance type of the same name. The t3.large gives the most CPU and memory of the three, t3.medium sits in the middle, and t3.small provides the least. You choose the size that matches your workflow automation load and pay per hour running.
Am I charged the hourly rate when the instance is stopped or paused?
The software hourly rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing these hourly charges. However, stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes. These EC2 charges are billed separately and are not part of the hourly rate shown.
What is included with the appliance, and what do I pay for separately?
The appliance includes automatic HTTPS, a firewall, unattended security updates, and a hardened base operating system. You keep full control of the instance. You pay the hourly software rate here, plus AWS EC2 compute and storage charges billed separately by AWS.

Usage instructions
Launch the instance with security-group ports 443, 80, and 22 open. Wait ~2 minutes for first boot to provision TLS and start the stack, then browse to https://<public-ip>/ (the appliance serves a self-signed certificate by default - accept the one-time browser warning). Retrieve auto-generated admin credentials over SSH (user 'ubuntu' with your EC2 key pair): sudo cat /opt/appliance/credentials.txt.
