Overview LMS (Lightweight Music Server) is an open source, self hosted music streaming server that streams your personal music collection from anywhere through a fast in browser web player or any Subsonic compatible mobile and desktop app. Written in C++ on the Wt web toolkit, it is unusually light on memory and CPU for a full featured streaming server, and it keeps its catalogue in an embedded SQLite database. It scans the audio files you copy into its library and presents your albums, artists, genres and playlists with cover art, on the fly transcoding, and a Subsonic compatible API that a wide ecosystem of player apps already speak. This image delivers LMS fully built, configured and security hardened, so a complete music streaming platform is running within minutes of launch. The current release available is LMS 3.79.0.
Application Stack LMS is built from source and served behind an nginx reverse proxy on port 80, with ffmpeg for on the fly transcoding to any bitrate or format. The server binds the loopback interface only and is never exposed directly to the network. The music library, the SQLite catalogue and the transcode cache all live on a dedicated, independently resizable storage volume, and a nightly library scan keeps the catalogue current.
Secure By Default Upstream LMS opens a setup wizard to whoever reaches it first while no account exists. This image instead generates a unique administrator password and a separate Subsonic API key on every instance's first boot, before the server ever accepts a connection, and writes them to a root only file. No shared, default or guessable credential ships in the image, and the server itself listens only on the loopback interface behind the reverse proxy.
Ready To Use The LMS binary, web server and database are all configured. Browse to the instance address and sign in to the web player, copy your audio into the preconfigured library and run a scan, then connect any Subsonic compatible client app using the generated API key. LMS serves on whatever hostname or IP address you reach it on.

Usage instructions
Connect via SSH on port 22 as the default login user for your operating system variant (the user guide lists it per variant; on Ubuntu it is 'ubuntu'). LMS is served on port 80. Retrieve the generated credentials with: sudo cat /root/lms-credentials.txt. Browse to http://<instance-public-ip>/ and sign in to the web player with the lms.admin.username and lms.admin.password from that file. Subsonic client apps use the lms.subsonic.apikey value as the password instead. Put your audio files in /var/lms/music and run a scan from Admin then Scan settings. Services are managed with systemctl (lms, nginx). To enable HTTPS, follow the Let's Encrypt section of the user guide.
