You pay by the hour for a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 image, with the rate set by the EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size within families like t2, t3, m5, c5, r5, and newer generations such as c7i, m7a, and r7i. Smaller instances (nano, micro, large) cost less per hour; larger sizes and metal instances cost more. Compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x), storage (d, i), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn) families carry different rates. You are billed only for hours you run.

You get a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 image pre-installed and ready to launch on the matching EC2 instance you choose. The rate covers the software image itself. It includes OS updates, firewall, and network protocols. Underlying EC2 compute is billed separately by AWS.
Software charges accrue only for hours the instance is running. A stopped or paused instance stops accruing the hourly software fee. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the image itself meters running hours only.
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, and the hourly rate follows that instance's size and family. Compute, memory, storage, and accelerated families carry different rates. Metal and larger sizes run at higher hourly rates. You pick the instance that fits your workload.
