This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use RabbitMQ 4.3 message broker with the management web UI. Connect your apps with reliable message queues, with unique passwords for every instance.
RabbitMQ is an open source message broker. It lets applications and microservices send messages to each other through queues, so work can be spread out, retried and processed in the background without losing data. This image gives developers and operations teams a ready RabbitMQ server in minutes, with the management UI already reachable in the browser.
What is included: RabbitMQ 4.3.5 with Erlang on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, the management plugin served through Nginx on port 80, and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own RabbitMQ admin and Webmin passwords, the default guest account can only sign in from the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. RabbitMQ is open source software licensed under MPL-2.0. RabbitMQ is a trademark of Broadcom Inc. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open its public IP and sign in to the RabbitMQ management UI. RabbitMQ 4.3, Erlang and Webmin are already installed and configured.
Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own RabbitMQ admin and Webmin passwords on first boot, the guest user works only from the server itself, and SSH is key-only.
Reliable messaging for your apps: queues, exchanges, routing, acknowledgements and streams, so services can talk to each other without losing messages.

Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the software running on an EC2 instance, with no license key required since the bundled software is open source. The price you pay depends only on which EC2 instance type you choose. Dimensions map to instance families and sizes, such as general-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z), storage-optimized (d, i), and accelerated-compute (g, p, f, inf, trn) options. Within each family, hourly cost scales with size, from large up through metal and multi-xlarge. You pick one instance type that fits your workload and pay that hourly rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly software charge, and does a license key come with it?
You get a pre-built machine image running RabbitMQ 4.3.5 on Erlang/OTP 27, with the management, Prometheus, shovel and federation plugins, nginx, and Webmin on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. The software is open source (MPL-2.0), so no license key is required. You pay separately for the AWS compute you run.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The software fee is metered per instance-hour while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume, which are separate from this listing's software charge.
Does the hourly rate change if I resize to a different EC2 instance type?
Yes. Each EC2 instance type is its own pricing dimension with its own hourly rate. If you stop the instance and relaunch on a different type, billing follows the new type's rate. You pay only the rate for the instance type actually running at any given hour.

Vendor refund policy
Software charges are billed hourly, only while your instance runs. You can stop charges at any time by terminating the instance or cancelling your subscription. Charges already incurred are not refundable.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, enter http://<instance-public-ip> into your browser and sign in to the RabbitMQ management UI with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. Webmin is on port 8000, so open http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 80 (management UI) and 8000 (Webmin). Applications connect to RabbitMQ over AMQP on port 5672, so open 5672 only to your own application servers. For security, allow ports 22 and 8000 only from your own IP address.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Create a dedicated user and virtual host for each application in the management UI. Change your passwords with sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_rabbitmq.sh or pass_webmin.sh, and run rabbitmq_status.sh to see users, vhosts and queues.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
