Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the Enterprise Edition database running on AWS Graviton-based EC2 instances. Each dimension maps to a specific Arm-based instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you select, not a feature tier. Options span several instance families: general-purpose (m-series), compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r- and x-series), and storage/IO-focused (i-series). Within each family, prices scale with instance size, from xlarge up to 48xlarge. Variants with added network bandwidth (n), local disk (d), or extra memory (b) are also available. Choose the instance that fits your workload; billing follows actual running hours.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one AWS Graviton Arm-based EC2 instance type. The instance type sets your vCPU count, memory, network bandwidth, and local storage. For example, larger sizes like 48xlarge carry more resources than an xlarge. Your hourly rate reflects the instance you launch the database on.
The software rate meters running instance-hours. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software charges. Stopped or hibernated instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the database software licence bills only while the instance runs.
The database can run as a multi-node cluster on EC2. Each running instance bills separately at its own hourly rate based on its instance type. Your total software cost is the sum of hours across all active nodes. Adding or removing nodes changes your running-hour total.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
This AMI includes a MarkLogic Essential Enterprise Production license. The AMI is configured to store MarkLogic configuration and data on an attached EBS storage. When you launch this AMI via the EC2 Console, the storage will be pre-configured and it must remain on /dev/sdf device. Leave off the 'Delete-on-termination' checkbox, to enable you to keep your data. If you start the EC2 instance without using supplying any configuration data as described in documentation (link below), then the MarkLogic server will initialize the server and create a default administrator account. You can access the Administration portal on port 8001 using username "admin" and the password equal to the EC2 instance ID (e.g. "i-001602692a5d518a4").
MarkLogic also provides a Cloud Formation template for launching this AMI that provides the easiest way to gain the benefits of high-availability and scalability.
