Overview
DynamoSQL is an ANSI SQL query engine purpose-built for Amazon DynamoDB. It lets engineers, analysts, and ops teams run standard SQL - including JOINs, CTEs, GROUP BY, subqueries, aggregations, and ORDER BY - directly on DynamoDB tables without exporting data, building ETL pipelines, or maintaining a separate data warehouse. Define schema mappings for your tables once, then query through a web console or a SQL-over-HTTPS REST API. DynamoSQL's optimizer is index-aware, using your DynamoDB partition keys, sort keys, and GSIs to minimize read costs and latency.
Security and governance are built into every layer. Each connection is scoped to a specific AWS account, region, IAM role, external ID, and explicit table allowlist - you control exactly what DynamoSQL can access. All queries use short-lived AWS STS credentials (AssumeRole), and every DynamoDB API call is logged in your CloudTrail for full auditability. DynamoSQL does not store or persist your data.
DynamoSQL is available as a pay-as-you-go SaaS subscription through AWS Marketplace - no upfront commitments, no infrastructure to provision. Subscribe, grant access via an IAM role, and start querying in minutes.
Highlights
- Query DynamoDB with full ANSI SQL - Run JOINs (inner, outer, cross), CTEs, subqueries, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, aggregations, and expressions directly on your DynamoDB tables. No data export, no ETL pipelines, no PartiQL limitations. DynamoSQL's index-aware optimizer uses your partition keys, sort keys, and GSIs to minimize read costs.
- Web console and SQL-over-HTTPS API - Query interactively through a built-in portal or integrate programmatically via a REST API. Define schema mappings once and reuse them across dashboards, internal tools, scripts, and automated workflows. Pay-as-you-go through AWS Marketplace with no infrastructure to provision.
- Secure by design with full AWS-native controls - Access is scoped per tenant using IAM roles, external IDs, and explicit table allowlists. All queries use short-lived STS credentials and every DynamoDB API call is logged in your CloudTrail. DynamoSQL does not persist customer data.
