What counts as a token for billing, and how are input and output tokens measured?
A token is a chunk of text the model reads or generates. Input tokens cover your prompt and any context. Output (response) tokens cover the model's reply. Each is metered per million tokens and billed at its own rate, so a verbose reply raises output charges independently of input.
How do prompt caching dimensions change my cost when I reuse the same context?
Cache write charges apply when the model stores context for reuse. Cache read charges apply each time stored context is reused, at a lower rate than fresh input. A separate 1-hour cache write covers longer retention. Reusing content shifts charges from standard input toward the read rate.
How does the Reserved hourly option differ from usage-based token pricing?
Usage-based dimensions meter actual tokens processed, with no commitment. Reserved dimensions bill per hour for each 1,000 tokens per minute of committed throughput, over a 1-month or 3-month term. Reserved suits steady, predictable traffic; token metering suits variable or occasional workloads.
