Requirements: To operate this software, users must create an account on platform.openai.com and generate an API key. The API key is entered once during setup and is stored securely on the user's AWS instance. All usage of the OpenAI API is billed directly to the user's OpenAI account. A built-in cost estimator is included as part of the software to help forecast token usage.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
This release provides a bring-your-own-domain configuration of PDF Insights AI for AWS Marketplace customers. It is designed for use with AWS Application Load Balancer (ALB) and AWS Certificate Manager (ACM) to enable fully managed TLS/HTTPS without modifying the AMI.
For full functionality of the chatbot creators and multi-agent features, customers must attach their own domain name and configure HTTPS through an ALB with an ACM certificate. This approach allows secure browser access, automatic certificate renewal, and simplified scaling across instances.

Usage instructions
Launch the Instance
From the AWS Marketplace console, launch the AMI using your preferred VPC and subnet.
Recommended instance type: t3.large or larger.
Open inbound ports 80 and 8501-8506 in the security group to your own IP address only for testing access.
(Optional) Leave SSH (port 22) closed unless needed for diagnostics.
Obtain an OpenAI API Key
Create an account at https://platform.openai.com (not ChatGPT).
From your OpenAI dashboard, generate a new API key.
Copy the key into a plain text file (for example, openai_key.txt) and keep it on your local computer.
First Browser Access
In a web browser, navigate to http://<instance-public-ip>/
When prompted, upload the text file containing your OpenAI API key.
The application will store the key securely on your instance for subsequent sessions.
Login Credentials
When the login screen appears, enter:
Username: user
Password: pdf_insights
After logging in, go to Settings > Change Password to update and record your new password.
Verify Operation
From the main menu, upload a PDF document or use the included sample file constitution.pdf.
Ask a question such as "Who signed this document?" to confirm functionality.
Optional - Enable HTTPS (Recommended)
To enable secure browser access, configure TLS using AWS Application Load Balancer (ALB) and AWS Certificate Manager (ACM).
This approach requires attaching your own domain and certificate; no AMI modification is needed.
