Centralized management has transformed multi-site DNS, DHCP, and IP address administration

    Reviewed on May 07, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are using Infoblox NIOS  to host DNS, DHCP, and IPAM services for our customers.

We are hosting customers' internal DNS infrastructure using Infoblox NIOS , and we are hosting their DHCP scopes for their remote sites and data center sites using Infoblox DHCP server. We are using the IPAM database for managing their IP allocation management.

We are also using Infoblox NIOS for their network discovery by using Network Insight, and we are using Infoblox RPZ zones for providing DNS threat protection and advanced DNS protection.

    What is most valuable?

Infoblox NIOS offers anycast, a built-in anycast feature, a built-in reporting feature, and direct integration with domain controller for hosting AD-integrated domains.

The built-in reporting appliance helps to fetch the metrics which are very important and crucial for looking for and managing day-to-day operations like DHCP behavior for the dynamic clients and the number of DNS queries coming from a specific client. The DNS anycast feature helps to provide redundancy across DNS members in Infoblox NIOS.

Its centralized management using Grid Manager allows administrators to manage DNS, DHCP, and IPAM across a distributed global environment from a single console. Infoblox NIOS really brings up the centralized console around their 160-plus sites for their DHCP services, allowing us to manage their entire network infrastructure using DNS and DHCP within the same console using Grid Manager and Grid Members.

We noticed a huge efficiency in terms of the management of their remote sites, which were scattered all around. Now we could manage their remote sites using a centralized management Grid Manager, with all of their remote sites controlled from a single control plane.

    What needs improvement?

Infoblox NIOS does not have a need for great improvement; it is a very robust and self-sufficient tool out of the box, offering most of the features which a customer would need. Most of the customization we would need in our environment are built-in, so there is not much need for improvement other than handling the bugs.

Sometimes we face API limitations, and some developers feel that the API documentation and certain basic functionalities could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Infoblox NIOS for the last three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Infoblox NIOS is a very stable product in my experience.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is highly scalable, allowing the addition of Grid Members on demand wherever you want to expand. Although there is a limitation on the number of members you manage in your grid, the default license allows you to add a pretty decent number of members, which helps in scalability. Anycast service also aids in scaling the number of members providing DNS and DHCP services.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support is awesome. As this product has been in the market for quite a long time, the TAC team is well-trained to help their customers with any ongoing issues, and they jump on high-priority issues on demand.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution. I evaluated Infoblox NIOS as my first and foremost solution for that particular customer and implemented it for them.

    What was our ROI?

We saw a great return on investment by reducing local administrators on the remote sites. Once we onboarded all the remote sites on the centralized Grid Manager, we could manage all the remote sites from one place, further reducing the headcount.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did evaluate BlueCat and EfficientIP before choosing Infoblox NIOS.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for others looking into using Infoblox NIOS is that the product is quite niche, with a high licensing cost, so bigger enterprises should check with their technical account managers for the exact cost of implementation and procurement. It has a steep learning curve that may overwhelm a user initially, so getting certified with Infoblox NIOS is recommended.

A big enterprise should always implement a solution that is highly scalable and supports complicated deployments with high customization. Infoblox offers all of these alongside built-in security parameters that a user can enable on demand, making it an overall good product to use as desired. I would give this product an overall rating of ten out of ten.

Centralized DNS security has improved compliance reporting and supports hybrid cloud operations

    Reviewed on Mar 19, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

IPAM and DNS are the primary purposes of using Infoblox NIOS  in our customers' environment.

    What is most valuable?

DNS Threat Protection feature is probably one of the primary reasons to use Infoblox NIOS.

The detailed logging and audit capabilities of Infoblox NIOS help our customers maintain regulatory compliance, although I don't have hands-on experience or direct feedback at a detailed level.

Centralized management, which is complex, impacts their operational efficiency, and that's part of the reason why customers actually look at Infoblox NIOS.

    What needs improvement?

In a world where everything is simplified and simplification becomes a buzzword, Infoblox NIOS has some work to do regarding making the deployment process less tricky and less complicated.

Whether deployment is complex or straightforward depends on the customer; it can vary based on individual circumstances.

Deployment and use of Infoblox NIOS can be quite complex in some respects.

Integration is not simple regarding how easily Infoblox NIOS integrates with other third-party tools.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Infoblox NIOS since 2018, almost eight years.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for Infoblox NIOS is at a very high level based on the engagement that I have with clients that use Infoblox NIOS.

My rating of their support is eight out of ten, just because I can't go higher than that, or then you don't have the space to improve.

    How was the initial setup?

Previously I have done deployment for our customers for Infoblox NIOS, but I am not currently doing this work.

Deployment takes days, and if you do a comprehensive deployment of Infoblox NIOS, it is going to take more than it. In terms of deploying Infoblox NIOS into an existing environment, the deployment might extend days rather than hours due to challenges and the role of change control.

    What about the implementation team?

A team of three technical competent people usually participates in the deployment.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

In comparison to other products like BlueCat and EfficientIP, I find Infoblox NIOS to be very expensive, but I think there's value added, and that's why customers are still looking at buying the product.

When it comes to DNS and IPAM, I would say Infoblox NIOS is probably twenty percent, with eighty percent mixed between EfficientIP and BlueCat.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

    Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Gained unified IP visibility and now secure DNS and DHCP simplify daily network operations

    Reviewed on Jan 18, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Infoblox NIOS  involves IPAM, which includes DHCP, DNS, external DNS, and different filtering of DNS and securing DNS.

A specific example of how I use Infoblox NIOS  for DNS or DHCP in my daily work is that whenever I have an external DNS record, I probably deal with creating CNAME, host record, and text record for further encryption, and we use encryption between to make it secure. In DHCP, I normally use it for our laptop, computer, IoT device, and pretty much everything that has an IP.

    What is most valuable?

In my opinion, the best features Infoblox NIOS offers include being a pretty secure, standard, and stable device with great controls over all the DNS and DHCP features, which provide visibility of all the IPs designated companywide and what is talking to what, making it an overall visible and stable device for DHCP, DNS, and IPAM.

Out of those features, I would say the most valuable for my organization is DNS because it is more of a naming to IP standard. We have control over the DNS, what the name is, where the name is going to, and where the name is coming from, making DNS a really significant feature on IPAM within Infoblox NIOS.

We can do automation with it and API calls, which make it simple. Whenever we configure IP assignments, this API call will be easy to make.

Infoblox NIOS has positively impacted my organization by providing visibility and control over everything. This visibility and control help my team with faster troubleshooting and better security. For example, if we have any threat or attack, we know where it is coming from, allowing us to immediately block those devices. Assigning an IP address and everything is pretty easy because of the hierarchical architecture they have.

    What needs improvement?

One improvement for Infoblox NIOS is the cost, especially when dealing with the physical device, as it is expensive. Secondly, when we do upgrades, we don't have control over the length of time it takes. Overall, it is pretty decent, and they are pretty good with what they offer right now.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Infoblox NIOS for around two to three years, but not in my current role or since I started my career.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I evaluated other options before choosing Infoblox NIOS, and I can confirm that Infoblox NIOS is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Infoblox NIOS's scalability is good. It is scalable because we have redundancy and availability, and whenever we make replacements or changes, the downtime is really low.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Infoblox NIOS is great overall.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have always been using Infoblox. While we previously used Active Directory and other old school solutions, we switched to Infoblox as we felt it was a better fit.

    How was the initial setup?

We manage upgrades and patches for Infoblox NIOS by first getting the change approved, then reviewing the release notes to determine our strategy. We proceed by testing first on a test machine, then moving to the external grid, and finally  to the internal grid, distributing the changes through a change management process and a risk management process to complete the task.

    What about the implementation team?

Infoblox NIOS integrates with our other IT systems and security tools by providing protection, DNS, and DNS firewalling. All the devices with IP have an inventory in Infoblox, which discovers them.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment with Infoblox NIOS, as it is pretty stable. Once installed and in place, it works as designed without any issues.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing for Infoblox NIOS is that they are pretty expensive.

What other advice do I have?

We monitor the performance and availability of Infoblox NIOS using external monitoring tools, specifically using Ekahau for monitoring.

We handle disaster recovery and backup for Infoblox NIOS with a VMware backup solution that does differential backups, allowing us to restore at pretty much any time.

We ensure compliance with regulations or industry standards using Infoblox NIOS through a DDI  Infoblox portal, which has monitoring for how traffic comes in and goes out, as well as detecting any DNS attacks and threats.

My advice for others looking into using Infoblox NIOS is that if the environment is large and you want a segmented, scalable network assignment along with DNS security, Infoblox NIOS is an all-in-one device. I would rate my overall experience with this product an eight out of ten.

DNS security has stopped internal breaches and has improved visibility into user internet activity

    Reviewed on Jan 12, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Infoblox NIOS  is DNS Security and DNS firewalling.

I can provide a quick, specific example of how I use Infoblox NIOS  for DNS security or DNS firewalling in my organization by stating that we always use DNS Security to filter any malicious traffic from users to the internet or to categorize internet users, thereby enabling filtration of internet traffic and generating reporting about traffic generated from the user side.

Additionally, sometimes we use it through IP address management, IPAM, because Infoblox NIOS is the number one in this field.

How has it helped my organization?

reduse data breach and add security controls on DNS traffic

    What is most valuable?

The best features Infoblox NIOS offers are DNS Security, IP address management, DNS reporting, and DNS firewalling.

DNS reporting has helped my organization by giving us a summary or overview of the traffic view to see how users use the internet, what malicious sites are accessed by users, and the amount of traffic generated by each user toward each site.

Infoblox NIOS has impacted my organization positively by giving us an overview about how users utilize the internet, stopping many DNS breaches generated by internal users, and helping us to determine the distribution of IP addresses through DNS IPAM.

    What needs improvement?

I cannot identify any improvements for Infoblox NIOS at this time.

I would like to add that we could improve the reporting functionality to make reporting more customizable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Infoblox NIOS for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Infoblox NIOS is very stable in my experience.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Infoblox NIOS scalability is perfect.

How are customer service and support?

Infoblox NIOS customer support is exceptional.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used a different solution before Infoblox NIOS, which was Cisco Umbrella . We moved to Infoblox NIOS because Cisco Umbrella  was not sufficient for our needs.

    How was the initial setup?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing feels somewhat higher.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment, including time saved and increased resources and asset security.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Infoblox NIOS pricing feels somewhat higher because I am comparing it to competitors.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Infoblox NIOS, we evaluated other options, specifically Cisco Umbrella and Palo Alto Networks.

What other advice do I have?

I can share specific outcomes or metrics that show how Infoblox NIOS has helped, such as making troubleshooting easy and stopping some attack breaches because we detect the attack breaches inside the DNS packet.

My advice to others looking into using Infoblox NIOS is to study your requirements well, as the price is not the best price among competitors, but the quality of the service is the best. I rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Reliable DNS management has strengthened security and improved visibility into malicious domains

    Reviewed on Jan 10, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

For the most part, we rely on DNS with Infoblox NIOS , and lately, we also use IPAM, but we are not using DHCP; only DNS and IPAM.

We had a project involving the deployment of authoritative DNS with Infoblox NIOS , where we had a grid deployed on-premises with different Infoblox NIOS appliances, one for grid management, one for reporting, and one for handling different DNS zones. We have a DNS zone configured with security and also utilize BloxOne tools and Threat Defense to protect against DNS attacks. Recently, we purchased appliances for IPAM for IP address management to get more visibility on our IP information.

It is mainly about hosting our DNS zone with Infoblox NIOS, creating A records, PTR records, and blocking some malicious domains, which is the main use case we are doing.

    What is most valuable?

The best experience with Infoblox NIOS is that it is very reliable, and also the support team and the professional services team are very talented people. Working with those engineers is very good, and I learn a lot about the products. The main thing that I appreciate is their people working with them; they are very good at their work.

The change that we clearly see with Infoblox NIOS is due to the reporting. We have a dedicated reporting server, allowing us to clearly see the malicious domains that have been blocked and the kind of DNS traffic we have, granting us great visibility to show whatever we want on the dashboard without any issues.

We had an impact from improved visibility and reporting with Infoblox NIOS, as we had a lot of requests to block some malicious websites and domains due to compliance demands, making it user-friendly and easy to perform those tasks.

    What needs improvement?

For the features of Infoblox NIOS, one difficult aspect we encountered is related to load balancing configuration. For example, if we need to create a DNS A record that has two public IPs for one name, load balancing is essential, not only for balancing but also for monitoring the state of those IP addresses to know when one IP address is not available and should be removed from the DNS resolution, and to re-add it when it becomes available again. This kind of monitoring is required, not only resolving but also monitoring the A record information.

The missing point I can see in Infoblox NIOS is the load balancing functionalities, where for a DNS A record that has two IP addresses, we need the possibility to monitor those IP addresses to see if one goes down, to be able to remove it from DNS resolution and show only the available one, focusing on endpoint monitoring.

Load balancing and endpoint monitoring is my main concern.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Infoblox NIOS since February 2022, so now three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In my environment, Infoblox NIOS is a very reliable product; we did not face any issues with the product while performing any tasks, and I think the features that are in Infoblox NIOS are all satisfactory in my thoughts.

Infoblox NIOS is very stable in our environment, with no unexpected downtime.

We did not notice any latency issues or bottlenecks with Infoblox NIOS; everything was good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Infoblox NIOS's scalability is excellent for our organization; they are flexible to align with our growth, allowing adjustments based on traffic growth and guiding us on better appliance choices with great offers for replacements, resulting in no issues.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Infoblox NIOS is very helpful; if we create a ticket, we receive feedback within two hours, and they often send a meeting link to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I do not know which solution we used for DNS because when I arrived, it was already Infoblox NIOS that was in place.

    How was the initial setup?

Handling upgrades and maintenance for Infoblox NIOS is generally a smooth process; the upgrade is smooth because of the MOP provided by the support team, allowing us to run the upgrade process without finding anything negative.

    What about the implementation team?

It was integrated with the help of professional services with Infoblox NIOS.

    What was our ROI?

I think the cost can be justified because it drastically reduced our incidents; we did not have any DNS-related incidents in three years supporting the traffic flow for about 10 million people, being part of a big network infrastructure as an ISP company in our country, so having no incidents in those three years is a strong metric.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with the pricing, setup cost, and licensing for Infoblox NIOS was good, but it is very, very expensive compared to other DNS infrastructure vendors, which is the main feedback we had from our hierarchy, stating that the high price is justified by the quality of Infoblox NIOS devices.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My team evaluated other options before choosing Infoblox NIOS, including EfficientIP.

What other advice do I have?

Infoblox NIOS is deployed on-premises in our organization.

For the learning curve with Infoblox NIOS, this could be a drawback; I think the website is very difficult to get information from, but we attended helpful training and regularly work with the support team and professional services, which helped us master Infoblox NIOS functionalities.

Unfortunately, we did not use automation features with Infoblox NIOS.

I would advise others to look into using Infoblox NIOS. I would rate my overall experience with this product as nine out of ten.
