You pay by the hour based on the AWS instance size you run. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type: t3.medium, c5.xlarge, c5.2xlarge, and c6a.2xlarge. These are compute options, not feature tiers. The larger compute-optimized instances handle heavier traffic loads, while the smaller general-purpose instance suits lighter workloads. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, so cost scales with the instance size and runtime you choose. All instances deliver the same stealth networking transport capability.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for each instance type?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the named type, billed per hour. For example, one c6a.2xlarge unit covers one c6a.2xlarge instance running for one hour. The instance runs the stealth networking transport software. You pay for each instance you launch, counted separately per hour of runtime.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges apply only while an instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue hourly software fees. Underlying AWS storage or other AWS resource charges may still apply while stopped. Billing tracks running hours, so cost stops accruing when you stop the instance.
If I run several instances, how do the charges combine?
Each running instance bills independently at its own hourly rate. Charges add together across all instances you run. Total cost equals the sum of each instance type's hourly rate multiplied by its running hours. Running larger compute-optimized instances or more instances raises the combined bill.
