Who this is for:
Teams that need a remediated, evidence-backed baseline for regulated workloads - the OpenSCAP score and audit artifacts your assessors can review without re-scanning from scratch on day one.
What you get (StigReady Applied tier):
StigReady Base partition layout plus CIS Benchmark aligned Level 2 remediation (StigForge roles)
Scored in the build against the raw, unmodified SSG CIS Benchmark Level 2 Server profile
The published score counts every documented exemption as a failure. Boot loader, root and sudo password rules fail until you run sudo stigready-set-credentials (AWS Marketplace does not allow these passwords in an AMI). Rules that do not apply to a cloud AMI (for example remote log offload and smartcard/CAC) are listed with a POA&M entry and the customer action in the evidence bundle.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay an hourly software fee for this pre-hardened image, charged per running instance on top of your EC2 costs. The 17 dimensions map to specific EC2 instance types across general-purpose, compute-optimized, and memory-optimized families. Your rate scales with the instance size and family you choose, from smaller t3 shared-core instances up to larger m5, m6i, c5, and r5 sizes. The software itself is the same across every option; you select the instance type that fits your workload. Billing runs by the hour based on actual usage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly software fee beyond the hardened image itself?
Each image ships with an evidence bundle: an OpenSCAP ARF file, an HTML report, a POA&M, an SBOM, and a CVE scan. These are scored in-build against the raw security profile. FIPS mode is enabled on the hardened images using the OS vendor's validated cryptographic modules.
Am I charged the software fee when an instance is stopped?
The software fee meters per running instance by the hour. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees while an instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's software fee.
Does the hourly rate cover my EC2 compute cost too?
No. The hourly rate is a software fee charged on top of your EC2 costs. AWS bills the underlying instance separately based on the type you launch. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so your total cost combines the software fee and the EC2 charge.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
Subscribe in AWS Marketplace, then launch in EC2 with your SSH key pair. Connect via SSH as ec2-user. The recommended security group allows SSH (TCP 22) from 0.0.0.0/0; narrow it to your admin network's IP range when you launch. This AMI requires IMDSv2-compatible instance metadata settings at launch. Documentation: https://stigready.com/applied. Download the per-version evidence bundle (OpenSCAP reports, POA&M, SBOM, CVE scan) from the URL in Support below. To meet the STIG/CIS boot loader, root and sudo password requirements on your instance, run sudo stigready-set-credentials after first login (AWS Marketplace policy does not allow these passwords to ship in the AMI).
