Security and Data Privacy
All data stays within your VPC - the AMI does not send data externally. Your location data remains fully isolated in your AWS environment, giving you complete control over sensitive address and coordinate information. All API communication uses HTTPS encryption in transit.
Infrastructure Requirements
This AMI requires an EC2 instance with at least 200GB of RAM to support the full geocoding database. Select instance types from the memory-optimized family (such as r5 or r6i series) to meet this requirement.

You pay by the hour for the software running on your own EC2 server, billed per instance-hour. Pricing scales with the EC2 instance type you launch, so you choose the compute size that fits your workload. Available options include compute-optimized instances (c7a.24xlarge, c7a.32xlarge, c7i.24xlarge) and a memory-optimized instance (r7iz.8xlarge). Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute and memory capacity. There are no software-bound usage limits; throughput depends only on the server you select. You may scale up by running larger instances or adding more servers.

What does one billing unit cover on the hourly plan for these instances?
You pay for each hour the software runs on your chosen EC2 instance. One unit equals one instance-hour. Every running server accrues charges per hour based on its instance type. Larger instances cost more per hour because they carry more compute and memory capacity.
Am I charged when the server is stopped or powered off?
The software licence meters running time only, so a fully powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes. Charges resume per hour once you restart the instance.
Are there any request or throughput limits on this server option?
No software-bound limits apply. You run the software on your own server with no usage restrictions. Throughput depends only on the hardware you launch. You may scale up by choosing a larger instance type or by adding more servers.

The Geocode.XYZ AMI requires an EC2 instance with at least 200GB of RAM. We recommend memory-optimized instance types. After launching the AMI, configure your security group to allow inbound HTTPS traffic, then access the API at your instance's IP address.

Have tried loading this instance with everything up to a c5.18xlarge and cannot get any response from the public IP or SSH. Thisis after 30 minutes. I hope I'm not being charged from creation of instance ---

Reverse geocoded a few thousand locations (mostly in western Europe) and it worked like a charm. I ssh-ed into the box and adjusted one of the example scripts to process my csv file. It is cheaper to just launch a small server which gives unthrottled and unlimited api access(I launched a T2.2xlarge) than using their batch web api if you have a small file ($1.3 vs their minimum $20 charge)

So, I went ahead and tested with the cheapest possible instance ( r4.2xlarge ). It is not available on any instance with less than 60GB of RAM, unfortunately.
After I started the instance I got a message on port 80 saying: "Temporarily Unavailable : Churning through startup tasks. Try again in a few minutes."
"A few minutes" turned out to be about 6 minutes. After that it was still slow to respond for another 10 minutes, so I guess the "churning" was not yet complete.
It did perform reasonably well afterwards on my test suite for both Reverse and Forward geocoding. My test suite contains worldwide locations, with the majority in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
As to the quality of the results, they were good. My only reason for the three stars is the slow time it took for the machine to get off the groud and running (about 20 minutes including the "churning" time), and also the fact that it is not available on cheaper instance types.
