This product has charges associated with it for security hardening. Launch a pre-configured Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 EC2 instance that ships with Armorbytes hardened baseline.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein charges are associated for hardening.
Armorbytes Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 image provides hardened defaults mapped to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) control families such as secure configuration, logging and monitoring, vulnerability management, and access control. Armorbyte is not affiliated with PCI SSC and this image by itself does not constitute PCI certification; it is intended as a prescriptive baseline to help reduce scope and accelerate audit readiness.
The baseline maps to the NIST CSF, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and other frameworks, giving teams a proven starting point toward compliance without the usual DIY effort.
Key features:
. Baseline aligned to PCI DSS control families (config hardening, logging, access control).
. Time sync enabled; log retention policies; auditd configured.
. Continuous patching via dnf-automatic.
. Optional FIPS mode enablement guidance included.
. Cloud-init hooks to integrate with SIEM/EDR agents.
Why choose Armorbyte?
Armorbyte images are continuously rebuilt, vulnerability-scanned, and cryptographically signed. Every build is regression-tested so it just works the first time you launch.
Highlights
This hardened image map to many established standards and regulatory frameworks, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), the ISO 27000 series of standards, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and others.

See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for a hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 server pre-configured to PCI DSS Advanced standards. Pricing is not tiered; instead, each option maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type. Your hourly software rate changes with the instance you choose. Smaller general-purpose instances like t3.nano and t2.micro cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, and GPU instances such as m5a.8xlarge, r5a.8xlarge, and g5.4xlarge carry higher hourly rates. You match the instance size to your workload. AWS infrastructure charges are billed separately from this software fee.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for this hardened server?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. You pay the hourly software rate for each hour that instance runs the hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 image. Each instance is billed separately, so running two instances doubles the software charge.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running hours only. A stopped or terminated instance accrues no hourly software charge. Note that AWS may still bill separately for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is an infrastructure cost, not the software fee.
Do I pay both a software fee and AWS infrastructure charges?
Yes. Your bill combines two charges. The hourly software fee here covers the hardened, PCI DSS Advanced Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 image. AWS separately charges for the underlying compute, storage, and data transfer of the instance you select. Both appear on the same AWS invoice.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
