Within each family, larger sizes cost more per hour because they provide more compute, memory, or storage. Bare-metal (metal) variants are also available. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.

Software charges accrue per hour only while an instance runs. Stopped or powered-off instances do not accrue hourly software fees. You may still pay underlying AWS storage costs for attached volumes, but the hardened image meters running time only.
Your rate follows the instance type you launch. Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour because they provide more compute, memory, or storage. Bare-metal (metal) variants run on a dedicated physical server. You pay one hourly rate per running instance.
