    Overview

    This data package contains the number of beneficiaries of the different types of Medicare Part D Plan with prescription drug coverage. The data contains the number of Medicare beneficiaries (patients) with creditable prescription drug coverage by type of Medicare Part D plan. The data is displayed by the state. Another dataset displays the number of prescription drug plans available per region and indicates the number of plans per contract for Prescription Drug Plan organizations offered by the region. Another dataset contains the number of prescription drug plans that are eligible for the low-income subsidy. Low-income eligible plans or benefit packages do not include premium and are eligible for auto-enrolment, dual eligible or facilitated enrollment. The data package also contains the percentage of Medicare Part D Beneficiaries that are eligible and with known creditable prescription drug coverage and percentage of Medicare population enrolled in the Stand-Alone Prescription Drug Plan.

    1. Medicare Part D Eligible Beneficiaries

    This dataset contains the percent of Medicare Part D Beneficiaries that are eligible and with known creditable prescription drug coverage. Prescription drug coverage to the Medicare Part D is according to The Medicare Modernization act of 2003. The beneficiaries are thus enrolled in a stand-alone prescription drug plan (PDP) or Medicare Advantage (MA) plan that covers prescription drugs.

    1. Medicare Prescription Drug Plans Enrollment

    This dataset contains the number and percent of Medicare population enrolled in the Stand Alone Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) and average premium for prescription drug plan charged by state. It also contains information on the number of plans per contract for Prescription Drug Plan organizations offered by region and number of prescription drug plans that are eligible for low income subsidy.

    1. Medicare Prescription Drugs Claims

    This de-identified dataset contains details 100% of the prescription drug claims made by Medicare beneficiaries during the year of release. This dataset is part of the Public Use Files (PUFs) released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which are public domain de-identified data files available for research with claim-specific information. The purpose of these files is to provide information while protecting confidentiality.
