You can pay for the Command model in three ways. Token-based pricing charges you separately for input tokens and output tokens, measured per million tokens. Provisioned throughput reserves dedicated capacity billed hourly, with three commitment options: no commit, 1-month commit, or 6-month commit. Longer commitments set your hourly rate structure. If you fine-tune the model, you pay per million model customization tokens to train it, plus a monthly storage fee to keep your customized model available. These options run independently, so you combine them based on your usage and capacity needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as a token for the input and output token pricing?
A token is a unit of text the model reads or generates, not a character or word. Simple text runs close to one token per word. Complex text with uncommon words may need three to four tokens per word. You pay separately for input and output tokens.
Am I charged for provisioned throughput when the model sits idle?
Provisioned throughput bills by the hour once you reserve dedicated capacity. Charges accrue for the reserved time regardless of how many requests you send. Idle reserved capacity still bills at the hourly rate. Token-based pricing, by contrast, charges only for tokens you actually process.
Which charges apply if I fine-tune the model?
Two charges apply to a customized model. You pay per million model customization tokens to train it, billed once during training. You then pay a monthly storage fee to keep the customized model available. Storage recurs each month until you remove the model. Inference charges apply separately.
