Overview
This AMI runs a self-hosted helpdesk and ticketing application with PostgreSQL on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Customer messages become tickets with conversations, groups, agents, organisations, tags, text modules, triggers and schedulers, plus a knowledge base and a REST API. Version 7.2.2 is pinned and pre-installed in the AMI.
What Perimattic adds
Administrator created for you: a random 24-character password is generated on your server and the one administrator account, using the email you enter, is created during first-login setup, before the site is published. The getting-started wizard is closed and customer sign-up is off. Apache provides HTTPS with a free Let's Encrypt certificate for your domain.
Limits you should know
Elasticsearch is not included, so ticket search uses the database; reports and attachment full-text search are not available. No mail server is configured: add your email channels in the application's settings. A t3.medium (4 GB) is the recommended starting size.
Licence and attribution
The application is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. Built on the open-source Zammad (AGPL-3.0). Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Zammad GmbH or the Zammad Foundation; Zammad is a trademark of its owner.
Getting Started Launch the AMI and open ports 22, 80 and 443 in the security group SSH in and answer the setup prompts (domain and admin email) Open https://your-domain and sign in with your email address and the password printed at the end of setup
A domain name with an A record pointing at the instance is required, because the site is served over HTTPS.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
Initial release.
- Application: Helpdesk and Ticketing Platform 7.2.2 (container image pinned, baked into the AMI).
- Base: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, fully patched at build time, built by an automated EC2 Image Builder pipeline.
- TLS: Apache reverse proxy with a Let's Encrypt certificate requested by certbot at first login.
- Credentials are generated on the instance at first login; none are present in the image.
- A random administrator password is generated at first login and the one administrator is created by the application's auto wizard before the site is published; the wizard file is deleted, the getting-started wizard is closed and customer sign-up is off. Setup verifies that the password works, that a wrong password and default logins are refused, that the wizard and sign-up are refused and that anonymous API requests are refused.
- Application: helpdesk release 7.2.2 (image 7.2.2-0035, AGPL-3.0, unmodified official images) with PostgreSQL 17.11, memcached 1.6.45 and Valkey 9.1.3 (all pinned). Runs without a search server; the vendor's backup container is not run.
- The vendor's image-lookup, geolocation and download hosts are pointed at the loopback address. No SMTP or mail channel is configured.
- Database, cache and session store: reachable only inside the Docker network.

Usage instructions
-
Launch an Instance
From AWS Marketplace, click Continue to Subscribe and then Continue to Configuration to launch the AMI.
-
Choose the Recommended Instance Type
t3.medium (4 GB of memory) is the recommended size: the six containers used about 1.2 to 1.4 GB in total in our tests (up to about 1.9 GB in use on the whole instance). Larger teams need more. The first login prepares the database and takes about four minutes.
-
Configure Security Group
Allow inbound traffic on the following ports:
- 22 (SSH) - terminal access for setup
- 80 (HTTP) - needed to validate your domain for the TLS certificate
- 443 (HTTPS) - access to Helpdesk and Ticketing Platform
-
Point a domain at the instance
Create a DNS A record (for example support.example.com) pointing to the instance's public IP before you log in.
-
Connect to the Instance
ssh -i <your-key.pem> ubuntu@<public-ip>
-
First-Login Setup
The first SSH login runs a guided setup:
- Prompts for your domain and admin email and checks the DNS A record
- Generates a random 24-character admin password and the database and session-store passwords on your server
- Starts PostgreSQL and the caches, prepares the database and runs the application's auto wizard, which creates the administrator, the organisation and the system address and switches customer sign-up off; the wizard file with the password is deleted
- Starts the application and checks that the password works, that a wrong password and default logins are refused, that the getting-started wizard and sign-up are refused and that anonymous API requests are refused
- Configures Apache as an HTTPS reverse proxy and requests a Let's Encrypt certificate
- Prints the URL and the admin credentials; they are also stored in /opt/app/access.txt (root only)
If a step fails, fix the problem shown and log in again: the setup resumes where it stopped.
-
Access Helpdesk and Ticketing Platform
Open https://<your-domain> and sign in with your admin email and the generated password (view it again with: sudo cat /opt/app/access.txt). Set your mail channel under Admin > Channels > Email and add agents under Admin > Users.
-
Credentials
Generated on your server, never shared between customers. View them again with:
sudo cat /opt/app/access.txt
-
Manage the Services
cd /opt/app sudo docker compose ps sudo docker compose restart
Data is in PostgreSQL in /opt/app/postgres and ticket attachments in /opt/app/storage: back up all of /opt/app or snapshot the volume before upgrades. No mail server is configured: set your channels under Admin > Channels > Email. Search uses the database (no search server); reports are not available.
