Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU or accelerator families. They also range from small shared instances up to metal and multi-terabyte machines. Larger or more specialized instances carry higher hourly rates. Billing runs per hour with no upfront commitment, so cost scales with the size and runtime you select. The software itself is identical across every instance tier.

You get the Valkey 8.1.6 software running on the EC2 instance you launch, preinstalled on Ubuntu 24.04. It includes auto-tuning that sets memory to 75% of RAM, AOF persistence, and auto-generated credentials. The instance size determines RAM, CPU, and your hourly software rate.
The software fee meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate AWS charges, not the software rate you select here.
Each tier maps to one EC2 instance type and carries its own hourly rate. When you launch a larger instance, you pay that tier's rate for each hour it runs. There is no upfront commitment, so cost follows the size and runtime you choose.

Usage instructions
- Launch the instance and wait for it to initialize (2-3 minutes).
- SSH into the instance: ssh -i your-key.pem ubuntu@<public-ip>
- View credentials: sudo cat /var/lib/valkey/credentials.txt
- Connect to Valkey: valkey-cli -a <password>
- Test connection: PING (should return PONG)
