Overview
ZIP Code Boundaries and Centroids includes names and boundaries, as well as other attributes, for postal ZIP Codes in the United States. Preciselys proprietary processes build these polygons using multiple data sources. ZIP Code boundaries are based on carrier route boundaries, using a combine/dissolve approach. ZIP Code Boundaries provide spatial demarcations of U.S. ZIP Codes.
Data Sets: The ZIP Code Boundaries and Centroids product consists of four data sets ZIP Code Boundaries provide spatial demarcations of U.S. ZIP Codes based on USPS carrier routes. The Centroid version includes all ZIP Codes, one record per, including point-type ZIPs such as PO Boxes. For true point ZIPs, an attempt is made to place the centroid at the Post Office or business address. For polygonal ZIP centroids, a modified geographic center point is used. ZIP Code Alternate Names provides all names associated with a particular ZIP Code in a separate table for faster geocoding and better hit rates in the main ZIP Code boundary file. ZIP Code NoFill boundaries provides an alternative set of ZIP Code boundaries with complete coverage throughout the U.S., even in areas where there is no postal delivery, to support map display and territory management and contains the same roster of ZIP codes along with their own centroids and change log.
