This contract pricing breaks into three units you buy separately based on your deployment scale. Projects count the deployable components you manage, like applications, microservices, APIs, or databases. Machines count the application hosts you register as deployment targets across Windows, Linux, or macOS. Tenants count the customer instances or physical locations you deploy to, letting you reuse one process across many sites. You set the quantity of each unit independently to match your needs. Costs scale with the number of units you commit to under your contract term.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
How is a machine counted for billing purposes?
A machine is any Windows, Linux, or macOS application host you register as a deployment target. Each host running the deployment agent counts as one machine. Each SSH connection to a Linux or macOS server also counts as one machine.
What does a tenant represent, and when would I need to buy them?
A tenant represents a customer instance or a physical location, like a retail store, hospital, or a SaaS customer's isolated setup. Each has its own variables and deployment settings. You buy tenants when you deploy the same project to many separate sites without duplicating configuration.
How do the three units combine to form my total cost?
You buy Projects, Machines, and Tenants independently, and all three add to one invoice. Projects usually drive the base cost as your deployable components grow. Machines and Tenants scale separately as you add deployment targets and customer instances. Each unit's quantity is set on its own.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

I use Octopus Deploy to automate application deployments across multiple environments. It makes releases consistent, repeatable, and easy to manage. The ability to handle complex deployment workflows and integrate with CI tools has saved me a lot of time and reduced errors. I really like how Octopus Deploy simplifies complex deployments. The standout feature for me is the ability to create re-usable deployment processes and manage multiple environments effortlessly. Its integration with CI/CD tools and the intuitive dashboard make tracking releases and approvals very easy. Reusable deployment processes save me a lot of time because I don't have to recreate steps for every new project or environment. Once I define a process, I can apply it across multiple applications, ensuring consistency and reducing errors. Managing multiple environments is equally valuable. It lets me promote releases from dev to staging to production with confidence, using the same tested workflow. This makes deployments predictable and eliminates the risk of missing steps during critical releases.
What do you dislike about the product?
One area that could be improved is the learning curve. Setting up complex deployment pipelines can feel overwhelming for new users. The UI, while powerful, sometimes feels cluttered when managing large projects. Also, better built-in reporting and analytics would make tracking deployment metrics easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Octopus Deploy to automate deployments, saving time by making releases consistent and reducing errors. It handles complex workflows, eliminates manual steps, and helps with versioning and rollback. This makes deployments predictable and effortlessly manageable across multiple environments.
