This AMI sets up a simple Kill Bill installation with Kaui, our administrative user interface for Customer Support agents and Finance teams. This AMI is ideal for Multi-Tier setups with external databases and ELB. Choose any external database of your choice, as the AMI doesn't create one by default. ABOUT KILL BILL: Kill Bill includes all of the basic features a business needs to run subscription billing processes and payment processes.
The real power of Kill Bill lies in building your own business logic on top of it to create a customized billing and payments solution. You can write plugins to modify Kill Bill's behavior and integrate with third-party vendors. Kill Bill already has many open-source plugins. Use them as examples for creating your own or modify them for your own use.
Even if you need to create your own customizations, Kill Bill is still a highly affordable solution.

You pay by the hour for the EC2 instances that run this multi-tier deployment. Each listed dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your cost depends on which instance sizes you choose and how many hours you run them. Larger instances carry proportionally higher hourly rates. Because the setup uses two or more EC2 instances plus a separate database and load balancer, your total software cost scales with instance count and size. This billing sits on top of your own AWS infrastructure charges. You control how many instances you launch and can add more later.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover in this multi-tier deployment?
Each hourly unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select. This deployment needs two or more instances, so you pay the hourly rate for each running instance. The rate reflects the instance size you pick, from small shared types to large dedicated ones.
Am I charged the software fee when an EC2 instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running instance-hours. A stopped or terminated instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You still owe your own AWS charges for attached storage and the separate database and load balancer, which are billed by AWS independently of this software fee.
What separate costs sit outside this hourly software fee?
The hourly rate covers only the software on each EC2 instance. You separately pay AWS for the Relational Database Service instance, the Elastic Load Balancer, and instance storage. These infrastructure charges come from AWS, not this listing. Your total cost combines the software hours plus those AWS resource charges.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
