Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.

You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 support, packaged as an Amazon Machine Image. The price you pay depends on which EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small shared types like t3.nano and t2.micro up to memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-optimized families such as r7i, c7a, i4i, and g5. Larger or more specialized instances carry higher hourly rates. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. This is usage-based pricing with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for a given instance type?
Each dimension meters one running EC2 instance of that specific type per hour. The rate covers Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 support packaged as an Amazon Machine Image. You pick the instance type that matches your compute, memory, storage, or GPU needs, then pay that type's hourly rate.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still bill separately even while the instance is stopped.
How does my bill change if I switch to a different instance type?
Each instance type has its own hourly rate. When you run a different type, you pay that type's rate for its running hours. Switching to a larger or more specialized family raises the hourly cost; smaller shared types lower it. Billing follows the instance you actually run.
