Overview

Product video
The SmartBear MCP Server connects SmartBear testing, API, and observability tools to AI workspaces like IDEs and AI assistants through the standardized Model Context Protocol (MCP). Instead of switching between tools, developers gain direct access to AI-ready data where they work, keeping build, test, and monitor workflows in one streamlined loop.
With this server, SmartBear customers can:
-
Access and query APIs, test results, and observability data from compatible AI tools
-
Orchestrate and monitor automated tests in real time
-
Detect and prioritize flaky tests for faster, more reliable releases
-
Generate actionable reports and debugging insights instantly
-
Build secure, agentic workflows powered by SmartBear unified toolset
Example requests users could make from outside SmartBear products using MCP:
-
Run contract tests for my payment service and list any breaking changes.
-
Show me all failed test cases from the last regression run.
-
Summarize the top 5 error events from the past 24 hours.
Highlights
- Unified access to API, testing, and observability data in one secure bridge.
- Orchestrate and monitor automated tests, detect flaky tests, and debug with AI.
- Local runtime ensures secure, compliant data access with full audit trails.

Container image
Containers are lightweight, portable execution environments that wrap server application software in a filesystem that includes everything it needs to run. Container applications run on supported container runtimes and orchestration services, such as Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS). Both eliminate the need for you to install and operate your own container orchestration software by managing and scheduling containers on a scalable cluster of virtual machines.

Usage instructions
-
Launch the product using 1-Click. Wait for the deployment to complete. When the container starts, it will automatically provision the SmartBear MCP Server environment inside your AWS account.
-
Install and configure the MCP Server. Open a terminal and install the SmartBear MCP Server by running the command npm install -g @smartbear/mcp. After installation, set your SmartBear product credentials as environment variables so the server can connect securely. For example, run the following commands: export BUGSNAG_AUTH_TOKEN=your_bugsnag_token export REFLECT_API_TOKEN=your_reflect_token export API_HUB_API_KEY=your_api_hub_key export PACT_BROKER_TOKEN=your_pactflow_token export QMETRY_API_KEY=your_qmetry_key These values allow the MCP Server to authenticate with your SmartBear products and services.
-
Start and access the MCP Server. Run the command mcp to start the server. When it starts successfully, you will see a message confirming that it is running on port 4000. Open a web browser and go to http://Public_Endpoint:4000 to verify that the MCP Server is active.
-
Connect your client application. Open your MCP compatible client, such as Claude Desktop or Visual Studio Code, and create a new MCP Server connection pointing to http://Public_Endpoint:4000. The client will automatically detect the running server and use the credentials you configured to connect with your SmartBear products.
-
Begin using SmartBear MCP. Once connected, you can use your MCP client to query, manage, and automate operations across SmartBear products such as Bugsnag, Reflect, API Hub, PactFlow, and QMetry. The MCP Server securely routes all requests and responses between your client and SmartBear APIs, allowing full visibility and control from your chosen development environment.
