Overview
DATPROF Virtualize is a container host solution offering advanced database virtualization capabilities in conjunction with DATPROF Runtime. Within a Virtualize container host, developers and testers can easily manage containerized databases through DATPROF Runtime. Virtualized databases allow for the instant creation and restoration of snapshots of all data and configurations, enabling users to generate virtualized or cloned versions of their test databases within seconds, without requiring additional storage. This significantly enhances the provisioning of test and development databases during software development and testing.
Traditionally, setting up a new database can take days to weeks and necessitates database administrators to execute complex backup and restore processes. Database virtualization dramatically speeds up this process, providing the right test data in the right environment at the right time.
With virtualized databases, development teams can swiftly create, modify, and destroy test environments without impacting production databases. This capability enhances team efficiency, allowing for faster iteration and increased productivity, ultimately accelerating time-to-market for software applications.
Snapshotting allows for the creation of multiple versions of test data without additional storage consumption. Users can take a snapshot of the data at a specific point in time, store it as a separate version, and easily revert to a previous version if needed.
Database virtualization also enhances security and compliance by enabling the creation of isolated and secure test environments that do not affect production databases. This reduces the risk of data breaches and other security issues while helping teams comply with regulatory requirements for data protection and privacy.
Moreover, database virtualization reduces hardware costs associated with maintaining separate environments for development, testing, and production. Instead of managing multiple physical databases, teams can utilize virtualized databases without claiming extra storage.
Please note that DATPROF Virtualize requires a licensed DATPROF Runtime to operate.
Highlights
- Quickly create, modify, and destroy test environments with virtualized databases, without affecting production databases.
- Capture precise snapshots, retaining complete control over your test environments, enabling seamless rollback to prior versions whenever necessary.
- Eliminate the need for redundant hardware, reducing infrastructure costs, and improving resource utilization.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Additional details
Usage instructions
A DATPROF Virtualize container host should be added to DATPROF Runtime with the Virtualize -> Connect container host option. Make sure port 2376 is opened in your security group / firewall. Use the AWS provided ip and port 2376 to connect the DATPROF Virtualize VM with DATPROF Runtime. For database containers, configure the security group to open specific ports to be able to connect to them. For example for Postgres containers, open a port range from 5432 - 5440 to be able to run multiple Postgres containers besides eachother on different ports.
