You pay by the hour for the AWS EC2 instance type that runs your BookStack wiki. All seven options bill on the same usage basis; they differ only by the underlying instance you select. The t4g.small and t4g.medium are burstable general-purpose sizes. The c6g.large is compute-optimized. The m6g.large and m7g.large are general-purpose. The r6g.large and r7g.large are memory-optimized. You choose the size that fits your compute and memory needs, and hourly charges scale with that choice. The software deploys through AWS CloudFormation and runs on a supporting database and file storage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do the different instance types mean for the compute and memory my wiki gets?
Each hourly option maps to one AWS EC2 instance size. The t4g.small and t4g.medium are burstable general-purpose sizes with less resources. The c6g.large favors compute, the m6g.large and m7g.large balance compute and memory, and the r6g.large and r7g.large offer more memory for heavier workloads.
Am I charged when the EC2 instance running BookStack is stopped?
You pay per hour only while the selected instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS resources like the database and file storage may still incur separate AWS fees, since the solution uses a supporting database and file storage.
Besides the hourly instance charge, what other costs affect my total bill?
The hourly rate covers the EC2 instance you select. The solution also runs a supporting database and file storage, plus regular backups of both. These underlying AWS resources bill separately under your AWS account. Optional features like Multi-AZ or AutoBackup can change your infrastructure footprint.

CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
