Each dimension bills per hour that the matching Amazon EC2 instance type runs. One unit equals one running instance-hour of that specific size. The rate covers the Rocky Linux 9 image and vendor support. AWS charges for the compute, storage, and network resources are billed separately by AWS.
The hourly software rate meters only running time. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue the software charge. You may still owe AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is an AWS infrastructure fee, not the software rate here.
You are billed at the hourly rate for whichever instance type you run. Switching to a larger size applies that size's rate for its running hours. There is no upfront commitment, so you can change instance types and the software charge follows the new selection automatically.
