You buy this hardened Rocky Linux 9.8 machine image by the hour, with no upfront commitment. Pricing has one dimension type: the EC2 instance you run it on. Each listed instance size carries its own hourly software rate, billed on top of the underlying AWS infrastructure charge. Rates scale with instance capacity, so smaller instances like t3.nano and t2.micro cost less per hour than large compute, memory, or GPU instances like c6a.48xlarge or p4d.24xlarge. You pay only for the hours each instance runs. Choose the instance size that fits your workload.

What exactly am I paying for with each hourly instance rate?
You pay a software license fee for the hardened Rocky Linux 9.8 image, charged per hour the chosen EC2 instance runs. This rate is separate from and added to the underlying AWS compute charge for that instance. Each instance size, from t3.nano to u-24tb1.metal, carries its own hourly software rate.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software fee meters running time only. When you fully stop or terminate an instance, the software charge stops accruing. Note that AWS may still bill for attached storage or other resources tied to a stopped instance, but that is separate from this software license fee.
How do I switch to a different instance size, and does my rate change?
You choose the EC2 instance size when you launch the image. Moving to a different size means running the image on that instance, which then bills at that size's hourly software rate. There is no upfront commitment, so you can change sizes as your workload needs shift.
