The Dedicatted Cost Optimization Accelerator helps organizations unlock hidden cloud savings by identifying workloads that can seamlessly migrate to AWS Graviton-based instances. Built to deliver immediate impact, the Accelerator automatically scans your AWS environment, evaluates workload utilization, and generates actionable recommendations for cost, performance, and sustainability improvements. Leveraging AWS Graviton industry-leading price/performance, the Accelerator pinpoints savings opportunities across Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon ElastiCache, Amazon MemoryDB for Redis, Amazon OpenSearch, Amazon EMR, AWS Lambda, and AWS Fargate. The result: up to 40% lower infrastructure spend and up to 60% better performance per watt, with minimal effort and no re-architecture required. Designed with simplicity and security in mind, the Dedicatted solution runs fully inside your AWS account with read-only permissions, ensuring no data leaves your environment. Exportable reports provide clear, shareable insights and prioritized recommendations that can be used for ongoing optimization or shared with your finance and engineering teams.

Dedicatted-csa-cf-stack
IAM Roles and Policies The stack creates an IAM role, CSARole, attached to the EC2 instance through an instance profile. The role allows the application to read AWS service metadata and pricing. The included policy (CSARolePolicy) grants read-only access to Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon ElastiCache, AWS Lambda, Amazon OpenSearch Service, CloudWatch metrics, and the AWS Price List API. No write or modify permissions are included, ensuring a least-privilege, read-only security posture.
Keys No KMS or Secrets Manager keys are created. If account-level EBS default encryption is enabled, the root volume will be encrypted with the AWS-managed key (aws/ebs) or your default CMK. No EC2 key pair is created by default. Remote access should be established via AWS Systems Manager Session Manager if needed.
Network Configuration The template supports deployment in either a new VPC (with public subnet, Internet Gateway, and security group) or an existing VPC (using your supplied VPC, subnet, and optional security group). The instance is always assigned a public IP address. Inbound access is restricted to TCP port 3000 from the CIDR block you specify. Outbound access is unrestricted.
Application Launch and Communication The stack launches a single Amazon EC2 instance (t4g.* type, ARM/Graviton-based) with a region-specific AMI. The instance automatically attaches the IAM role and communicates with AWS APIs to collect usage and pricing data. The application runs a web interface on port 3000. The CloudFormation outputs include the instance ID, VPC/subnet information, security group ID, and a ready-to-use access URL: http://:3000
Pricing and Service Limits Primary cost drivers are the EC2 instance, the EBS root volume, and any outbound data transfer. VPC networking components (VPC, IGW, route table, security group) incur no additional charges. Limits to be aware of include EC2 vCPU quotas, security group rule quotas, and VPC/IGW limits. For accurate estimates, use the AWS Pricing Calculator with your instance type, storage size, and expected data egress.
Data Encryption The root EBS volume will be encrypted if your account enforces default EBS encryption. No other storage or data services are created by the template. Data in transit is served over HTTP on port 3000; HTTPS/TLS is not configured. For production use, AWS recommends placing the instance behind an Application Load Balancer with an ACM-managed TLS certificate, enabling Systems Manager for secure access, and using CloudWatch Agent for logging and monitoring.
This deployment provides a secure, cost-effective foundation for analyzing AWS cost-saving opportunities with minimal setup effort.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
Version release notes

Usage instructions
To use the Cost Savings Accelerator, follow the steps below:
Product deployment
- Launch the CloudFormation stack using 1Click from AWS Marketplace.
- During deployment, you will be prompted for configuration parameters.
- Be sure to define the Client IP range (ToolUIAccessFrom) parameter. This value specifies which IP addresses can connect to the web application. You can provide a single IP in CIDR notation (for example, 203.0.113.25/32) or a broader range if needed. Restricting this value to your own workstation or office network is strongly recommended for security.
- You may choose to deploy into a new VPC (default) or into an existing VPC by providing the required VPC and subnet IDs. If no security group is provided, a new security group will be created automatically.
Check the CloudFormation Outputs Once the stack is complete, open the Outputs tab in the CloudFormation console. Key outputs include:
- CostOptimizationUrl - The URL to access the application.
- InstanceId - The EC2 instance ID, used as the default password.
- UsedVpcId, UsedSubnetId, and UsedSecurityGroupId - Network details of your deployment.
Access the Application
- Open a web browser and navigate to the value shown in CostOptimizationUrl.
- The URL will look like: http://<EC2_Public_IP>:3000
- Ensure that you are connecting from an IP address allowed by the ToolUIAccessFrom parameter.
Begin Using the Tool After entering the URL, the Cost Savings Accelerator will automatically connect to AWS APIs using the IAM role assigned to the EC2 instance.
- The application will collect read-only information about your environment, including EC2 instances, RDS databases, ElastiCache clusters, Lambda functions, OpenSearch domains, and CloudWatch metrics.
- Use the web UI to explore cost optimization insights, review resource usage, and evaluate potential savings opportunities.
Additional Notes
- The application runs on an Amazon EC2 Graviton-based instance (t4g.* type). Ensure your region supports Graviton instances.
- The root EBS volume may be automatically encrypted if account-level default EBS encryption is enabled.
- The application serves its web interface over HTTP on port 3000. For production use, AWS recommends placing the instance behind an Application Load Balancer with HTTPS/TLS enabled.
- No SSH key pair is created by default. For secure administrative access, use AWS Systems Manager Session Manager.
- To manage access more flexibly, you may edit the Security Group rules in the VPC console after deployment.
With these steps complete, you can quickly deploy and start using the Cost Savings Accelerator to analyze your AWS environment and uncover potential cost savings.
