    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for Radware Alteon VA, an application delivery and security platform. Pricing is tied to the AWS EC2 instance type you run it on. The listing spans three instance families: t2 (general purpose, burstable), m3 and m4 (general purpose), and c3 and c4 (compute optimized). Within each family, sizes range from small through 8xlarge. Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly rates, matching added compute capacity. You select the instance that fits your workload, and your hourly cost scales with that choice. AWS infrastructure charges are separate from the software rate.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

Each hourly rate maps to one running AWS EC2 instance of the size you pick. The instance family and size set the CPU and memory available to the software. Burstable t2 sizes vary compute over time, while c3 and c4 sizes provide steady compute-optimized capacity for the load balancer.
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance accrues no software charge. However, AWS may still bill separately for attached storage and other infrastructure while the instance is stopped. The software charge resumes when you start the instance again.
Yes. The software rate is tied to the specific instance type you launch. If you relaunch on a larger size, the higher hourly rate for that size applies for as long as it runs. There is no separate upgrade step; billing follows whichever instance you run.

Robust, Reliable, and Secure for Enterprise Needs

    Reviewed on Apr 22, 2025

What do you like best about the product?
Yes — beyond the usual load-balancing and uptime benefits, one thing I particularly like about Radware Alteon Application Delivery and Security is how it’s moving toward a more cloud-augmented security model. The newer Alteon Protect approach combines local enforcement with cloud intelligence for WAF, bot, API, and Layer 7 DDoS protection, which feels much better aligned to modern hybrid environments.

I also like the operational side of it. Centralised control, REST APIs, and infrastructure-as-code support make it easier to manage at scale, which matters a lot in a large telecom environment where consistency and speed are important.

Another positive is the flexibility around scaling and licensing. Radware positions Alteon with one license pool across environments, which helps with predictable operations and can reduce the pain of overprovisioning for peak demand.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest one is simplifying advanced configuration. Basic setup is manageable, but deeper policy tuning, certificate handling, and troubleshooting could be made more intuitive so teams don’t need as much specialist knowledge.

It could also improve on cost transparency and flexibility. The platform is strong, but clearer licensing and more scalable pricing options would make it easier to justify in environments where budgets are tight or needs change quickly.

Another area is day-to-day visibility and automation. Better analytics, cleaner dashboards, and more guided workflows for common operational tasks would help reduce the time spent digging through settings during incidents.

For a telecom environment, that would make it easier to support both resilience and speed without adding unnecessary operational overhead.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Radware Alteon mainly to distribute traffic evenly across our servers so none of them get overloaded. This helps us avoid bottlenecks and keeps everything running smoothly, even if one server has an issue. Having this resiliency in place means our services stay available and perform well for our users

Alteon: Load Balancing at it's best.

    Reviewed on Sep 30, 2022
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Its GUI is quite simple and easy to navigate. It is easy to manage and stores SSL certificates to manage SSL requests. It provides Server Load Balancing as well as Link load balanicng.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing as such, but the NAT setting is quite complicated when WAN multiple links are available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is easy to Manage and Provide us to manage clients' requests. It takes the SSL offloading headache to itself, so the Application servers do not access loads and serve customers more efficiently.
