Overview
Evon is an OpenVPN-based overlay network service. See https://evonhub.com for more detailed information.
Free Tier Pricing:
- Pay $0 per server for Evon Hub deployments with up to 10 Server Connections and Unlimited Users.
Evon Hub, an AMI-provisioned EC2 instance, sits at the centre of your overlay network. Your remote servers and users connect to the Hub, and together form a private IPv4 routable network that sits on top of the Internet.
Evon Hub hosts a Web application and API that builds a private network on the 100.111.224.0/19 subnet (configurable), and creates a virtual network interface on all connected systems with a static IP address. Virtual network links are resilient, and automatically re-establish if systems are power cycled or otherwise loose and regain their Internet connection.
The Hub is exclusively yours and hosts only your own private overlay network. It is reachable via SSH, Web UI or API at your-biz.evon.link. Connected servers are reachable via static IP addresses or via automatically created hostname.your-biz.evon.link DNS names. Deployment is straight forward and can be fully automated using supplied tools. User and group access to connected servers, as well as inter-server communication, is controllable via simple network policies, limiting access to ports and protocols as required.
Evon provides a simple, frictionless, easy to deploy, global virtual network between remote systems that are only reachable via bespoke access systems or that are otherwise unable to communicate with each other. It builds a policy-controlled private subnet for all connected systems availing unified orchestration, limited user or contractor access, full admin access, centralised monitoring and logging, internet gateways, CI/CD and any other network services via the overlay network subnet.
Evon Hub provides a desktop and mobile friendly Web UI, CLI tools and a full-featured REST API with Redoc-generated documentation for management and automation of any aspect of your overlay network, from user and server provisioning to automated deployment, policy control and event log auditing.
Highlights
- Simple, secure virtual private overlay network for remote servers and users
- Support for AWS metered billing enables consumption-based pricing, so customers only pay for what they use, aggregating usage at the end of the month.
- Policy driven network rules governing server endpoints and users, a fully featured Web UI for admins and users, CLI tools, and a REST API for autonomous management of all aspects of the system.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
- Add CentOS6 legacy support
- Improve Windows bootstrap script logging

Usage instructions
Launching a new Evon Hub instance:
- When launching, use our recommended EC2 Security Group, or ensure that inbound connections to TCP/22, TCP/80, TCP/443 and UDP/1194 are allowed from all sources.
- Your EC2 instance must be able to reach the Internet so that it can connect to the AWS API.
Configuring your Evon Hub:
Once launched, SSH to your Evon Hub EC2 instance with username "ec2-user", and enter the command "evon-deploy" to start the short registration and setup process.
An IAM Role must be created in your AWS account and attached to this EC2 instance for Evon Hub to function correctly. You only need to create the IAM role once. Please complete the following steps:
- Login to your AWS Management Console, open EC2 Services and click Instances
- Select the new EC2 instance deployed from this AMI and click Actions -> Security -> Modify IAM role
- Click Create new IAM role (or choose an existing one if created earlier)
- Click Create role, select AWS service and EC2, click Next
- Select AWSMarketplaceMeteringFullAccess, click Next
- Provide a Role name (eg evon-hub), click Create role
- In the Modify IAM role browser tab from step 2 above, click the refresh icon, select the new IAM Role, click Update IAM role
