Zabbix Proxy is an enterprise-grade component designed to enhance the performance and scalability of the Zabbix monitoring system. This Amazon Machine Image (AMI) comes ready to use, simplifying deployment on AWS and allowing seamless integration with your existing Zabbix infrastructure.
Zabbix Proxy enhances the performance, scalability, and efficiency of Zabbix monitoring system. It acts as an intermediary between monitored devices and the Zabbix Server Collecting and forwarding monitoring data on behalf of the server. By offloading data collection and preprocessing tasks, Zabbix Proxy significantly reduces the load on the central server, enabling seamless monitoring of distributed environments.
How Zabbix Proxy Works:
The proxy connects to the Zabbix Server and retrieves its assigned configuration
It receives a list of monitored hosts under its responsibility
Collects and buffers monitoring data locally, ensuring reliability even in case of network disruptions
At regular intervals, the proxy forwards the buffered data to the Zabbix Server
Zabbix Proxy is an essential component for organizations that need to monitor large-scale, multi-site infrastructures. Whether monitoring remote locations, high-latency networks, or complex distributed environments, Zabbix Proxy ensures seamless data flow and efficient resource utilization.
Highlights
Zabbix proxy collect and preprocess monitoring data from remote locations and networks while reducing the load on the Zabbix Server
Zabbix proxy store and forward monitoring data, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring even in case of network disruptions
Zabbix proxy deploy easily in cloud or hybrid environments to extend monitoring capabilities across multiple regions or data centers

See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size that runs Zabbix Proxy. Six instance options are offered, so pricing scales with the compute capacity you select rather than by monitored devices or metrics. The t3.micro, t3.small, and t3.medium options use burstable instances suited to lighter workloads. The m6i.large, m7i.large, and m7i.xlarge options provide fixed general-purpose compute for heavier loads. Charges accrue only while an instance runs, with no upfront commitment. Choose a size to match your proxy's data collection volume and adjust it as your needs change.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the Zabbix Proxy do, and what am I paying for with these hourly instances?
A Zabbix Proxy collects monitoring data from remote or local devices and forwards it to your central server. The hourly charge covers running the proxy on the chosen EC2 instance size. The proxy software itself is open source; you pay for the compute capacity that runs it.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
Hourly charges accrue only while an instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but the hourly software meter counts running time only.
Which instance option should I pick, and can I change it later as my monitoring load grows?
Pick a burstable t3 option for lighter data collection, or an m6i or m7i option for steady heavier loads. Cost tracks the instance size, not the number of monitored devices. You can switch to another size as your proxy's data volume changes, since there is no upfront commitment.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Robust Real-Time Infrastructure Monitoring with Helpful Alerts and Reports
Reviewed on Jul 24, 2026
Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Real time infrastructure management with agent and non-agent based monitoring solution. Dashboard for representing infrastructure, support for integration of cross platform devices. Robust performance, Free ware, excellent community for support and troubleshooting. Report generation and email-based alerts are very helpful. Customisable dashboard as per ease of use. Intelligent handeling of alerts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Difficult to visually monitor entire infrastructure at a time, cannot differentiate between important and less priority alerts unless specified. Database hangs sometimes in case of overload and need mysql reboot. Key configuration is difficult procedure and need lot of learning about regular expressions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can monitor our infrastructure efficiently with this tool. It sends email alerts when our services have issues, and it lets us monitor CPU levels with core-level details for our entities. Overall, it’s highly reliable and performs well for monitoring resources. We can also set it up for free, which makes it more cost-effective for us.

Powerful, Flexible Monitoring with Highly Customizable Dashboards and Alerts

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Zabbix for monitoring servers, network devices, VMware infrastructure, and services, and overall it is a powerful open-source monitoring solution for enterprise environments.
What I like most is its flexibility and wide monitoring support. It supports Linux servers, Windows systems, SNMP devices, VMware, cloud services, custom scripts, and application monitoring in a single platform. The dashboard and alerting system are highly customizable, and the proxy architecture helps in monitoring remote locations efficiently.
The template-based monitoring saves a lot of time, especially for infrastructure monitoring. Integration support for AWS, VMware, databases, APIs, and notification platforms like Slack and Telegram is also very useful.
One downside is that the initial setup and trigger configuration can be complex for beginners. The UI feels slightly outdated in some areas, and fine-tuning alerts requires experience to avoid excessive notifications. Many users in the community also mention the learning curve and configuration complexity.
Overall, Zabbix is an excellent monitoring tool for system administrators and enterprises looking for a scalable and cost-effective monitoring solution with advanced customization capabilities.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike about Zabbix is that the initial configuration and trigger setup can be complex for new users. The interface could be more modern, and managing alerts in large environments sometimes requires additional tuning and database optimization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Zabbix helps solve infrastructure monitoring and server health management problems in our environment.
We use it to monitor Linux servers, VMware hosts, services, CPU usage, memory, disk space, network availability, and uptime from a centralized dashboard. It helps identify issues before they become critical by sending real-time alerts and notifications.
The biggest benefit is reduced downtime and faster troubleshooting. Instead of manually checking multiple servers, we can quickly detect performance issues, service failures, or resource spikes from one platform. It also improves response time for incidents and helps maintain service availability for clients and internal systems.

What do you like best about the product?
It's simple on the surface, but that's where it ends
What do you dislike about the product?
1. It's needlessly complicated to get it to do what you want. 2. You need to be an expert in Zabbix in order to use it effectively 3. It only works well when you bolt on 3rd party mods 4. The support is far to expensive for the poor service it provides.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's not, it just monitors our servers and even that is iffy at best.

Open Source. Flexible and scalable, with auto‑discovery and automation. The alerting engine is solid, and it runs with low resource usage.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes a great deal of learning before you can really handle it effectively.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Zabbix addresses my visibility and alerting needs by monitoring servers, networks, and applications from a single place. For me, it helps reduce downtime, makes it faster to detect issues, and supports capacity planning so I can spot potential problems before they happen.
