    Synaplan - Self-Hosted Open-Source AI Platform

     Info
    Deployed on AWS
Self-host Synaplan, an open-source AI knowledge and communication platform, in your AWS account. Build RAG assistants, search documents, and connect cloud or local AI models.

    Overview

Synaplan is an open-source AI knowledge and communication platform that runs inside your own AWS account. This free AMI provides an all-in-one deployment on a single Amazon EC2 instance, including the web application, REST and OpenAI-compatible APIs, MCP access, RAG document search, vector storage, embeddable chat widgets, and multi-channel integrations.

Connect cloud AI providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Google Gemini, Mistral, and xAI, or use local models through Ollama. Your documents, configuration, database, and vector data remain in infrastructure you control. An AI provider account and API key may be required for cloud-hosted models, and the provider may charge separately.

The deployment includes HTTPS, an automatically generated administrator password with a mandatory first-login change, persistent EBS storage, AWS Systems Manager access, snapshot support, health checks, and update tooling. Synaplan has no software charge, telemetry, license check, or call-home service. Buyers pay only for the AWS infrastructure they launch and any optional third-party AI provider usage.

    Highlights

    • Deploy a complete self-hosted AI platform in your own AWS account with RAG document search, AI assistants, chat widgets, APIs, and MCP support.
    • Keep control of your data and choose between multiple cloud AI providers or local models through Ollama.
    • Production-ready single-instance deployment with HTTPS, persistent EBS storage, Systems Manager access, backups, health checks, and update tooling.

    Dimensions summary

You run this platform on your own AWS instance, and the software itself is free. Your charges come only from the hourly rate of the EC2 instance you pick. The seven options are all instance sizes, not feature tiers. Three use Intel-based hardware (c7i.xlarge, m7i.xlarge, m7i.2xlarge), three use Graviton (Arm) hardware (c7g.xlarge, m7g.xlarge, m7g.2xlarge), and one is memory-optimized (r7i.xlarge). The 'c' family favors compute, the 'm' family balances compute and memory, and 'r' adds more memory. Larger '2xlarge' sizes give you more capacity per hour.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

The software itself carries no license cost. Your charges come from the running instance-hour. When you stop the instance, hourly charges stop. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the software meters running time only.
Each hourly charge covers one running instance of the size you picked. The platform runs via Docker Compose. The standard setup uses about 9 GB and includes local AI models; a minimal setup uses about 5 GB and relies on cloud AI providers. Larger sizes hold more workload per hour.
No. Your AWS charge covers only the EC2 instance-hour. If you connect external model providers, you pay those providers directly at their own rates. The platform does not resell tokens through a markup. Running local models on your instance adds no per-token cost beyond the instance itself.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
