Synaplan is an open-source AI knowledge and communication platform that runs inside your own AWS account. This free AMI provides an all-in-one deployment on a single Amazon EC2 instance, including the web application, REST and OpenAI-compatible APIs, MCP access, RAG document search, vector storage, embeddable chat widgets, and multi-channel integrations.
Connect cloud AI providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Google Gemini, Mistral, and xAI, or use local models through Ollama. Your documents, configuration, database, and vector data remain in infrastructure you control. An AI provider account and API key may be required for cloud-hosted models, and the provider may charge separately.
The deployment includes HTTPS, an automatically generated administrator password with a mandatory first-login change, persistent EBS storage, AWS Systems Manager access, snapshot support, health checks, and update tooling. Synaplan has no software charge, telemetry, license check, or call-home service. Buyers pay only for the AWS infrastructure they launch and any optional third-party AI provider usage.

You run this self-hosted AI platform on your own AWS instance, billed by the hour. The software itself is free and open source, so pricing reflects the compute you choose. You pick from three instance sizes. The c7i.xlarge is a compute-optimized option, while the m7i.xlarge and m7i.2xlarge are general-purpose sizes. The m7i.2xlarge gives you more capacity than the m7i.xlarge. Your hourly cost scales with the instance size you select. There is no per-user or per-token license fee for the platform.

What resources do I get with each instance size, and which suits AI model workloads?
The c7i.xlarge is compute-optimized, favoring CPU-heavy tasks. The m7i.xlarge and m7i.2xlarge are general-purpose, balancing CPU and memory. The m7i.2xlarge doubles the capacity of the m7i.xlarge. For running local AI models, choose a size with enough memory and compute for your model footprint.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
Hourly charges apply only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing hourly software and compute charges. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes. Billing meters running time, so pausing work reduces your hourly cost.
Does running the platform add per-user or per-token license fees on top of the hourly rate?
No. The platform is open source under Apache 2.0, with no license cost, no user limits, and no per-token platform fee. You pay only the hourly instance rate. If you connect external AI providers, their own per-token rates apply separately and are not resold through this listing.

Recommended for most buyers. This template creates a dedicated VPC, public subnet, internet gateway, security group, IAM instance role, one EC2 instance, and a separate encrypted EBS data volume. Synaplan runs as an all-in-one application stack on the instance.
The generated administrator password is stored securely in AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store. The data volume contains the database, uploaded files, configuration, and vector data and is preserved through a snapshot when the stack is deleted. Optional automated EBS snapshots and Amazon Bedrock permissions can be enabled during deployment.

Launch this CloudFormation delivery option and review the stack parameters.
Keep m7i.xlarge for the recommended configuration. Synaplan requires at least 4 vCPUs and 8 GiB of memory.
Enter an administrator email address. Optionally provide a domain whose DNS A record will point to the instance. Without a domain, the instance uses a self-signed HTTPS certificate and the browser displays a certificate warning.
Restrict AllowedWebCidr to your own public IP range whenever possible. The default 0.0.0.0/0 makes the web interface reachable from the internet.
Create the stack and wait until its status is CREATE_COMPLETE.
Open the WebUrl stack output. Retrieve the generated administrator password by running the command shown in the AdministratorPassword output. The password is stored as an encrypted SecureString in AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store.
Sign in with the configured administrator email address. You must replace the generated password during the first sign-in before other application functions become available.
Configure an AI provider under Admin > AI Providers. Cloud providers require your own API key and may charge separately. You can also configure local models through Ollama.
Administration is available through AWS Systems Manager Session Manager; inbound SSH access is not required. Application data is stored on the separate encrypted EBS volume at /var/lib/synaplan.
For bug reports, include the Synaplan version, deployment method, relevant service status, and sanitized logs. Never include passwords, API keys, or other secrets.
