Overview
WordPress is an open source content management system that powers a large share of the web, from personal blogs to company websites and online stores. This image gives bloggers, small businesses and agencies a working WordPress site in minutes, with no installer to run and no database to create, so you can choose a theme and start writing straight away.
What is included: WordPress 7.1 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Apache with PHP, MySQL 8.0, WP-CLI for command-line management, phpMyAdmin for database administration and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. The site address follows the instance's public IP automatically until you set your own domain. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own WordPress administrator, MySQL root and Webmin passwords, a new database password and a new phpMyAdmin secret, MySQL listens only on the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. WordPress is open source software licensed under GPL-2.0. WordPress is a trademark of the WordPress Foundation. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
- Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open its public IP to see your new site and sign in at /wp-admin. WordPress 7.1, WP-CLI, MySQL, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are already installed and configured.
- Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own WordPress, MySQL and Webmin passwords on first boot and new WordPress security keys are generated, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
- Build anything: blogs, business sites, online stores and portfolios with thousands of themes and plugins. The site address follows the instance's public IP until you add your own domain.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, enter http://<instance-public-ip> into your browser to see your site. The dashboard is at http://<instance-public-ip>/wp-admin; sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. phpMyAdmin is at http://<instance-public-ip>/phpmyadmin; sign in with root as the username and your instance ID as the password. Webmin is on port 8000, so open http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 80 (WordPress and phpMyAdmin) and 8000 (Webmin). For security, allow ports 22 and 8000 only from your own IP address.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Change your passwords after the first sign-in: connect over SSH and run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_wordpress.sh for WordPress, pass_mysql.sh for MySQL root or pass_webmin.sh for Webmin. When your domain is ready, wp_url.sh in the same folder switches the site to it.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
