You pay by the hour for a hardened Ubuntu 22.04 image running on the EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator capacity of that instance. General-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU or accelerator families are all covered. Larger instances within a family carry higher hourly rates. You are not locked into a term; billing follows actual usage. Select the instance that fits your workload, and the hourly software rate applies alongside the underlying EC2 charge.

The hourly rate covers the hardened Ubuntu 22.04 software license running on your chosen EC2 instance. This is a virtual machine image configured to STIG security recommendations. The software charge is separate from the underlying EC2 compute charge, and both meter per running hour.
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing the software rate. Stored volumes may still incur separate AWS storage fees, but the license meters running time only. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly charge automatically.
