This is Microsoft's latest Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release, built on the 24H2 platform (build 26100), with extended support until November 2034. Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. The price you pay depends on the EC2 instance type you choose to run the software on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small general-purpose types to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-focused options. Larger instances with more vCPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. You scale cost simply by selecting a bigger or smaller instance, or by adding or stopping instances. The software fee is bundled into each hourly rate alongside the underlying EC2 usage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hourly rate bundles the cloudimg Windows Server 2025 Datacenter software licence with the underlying EC2 compute for that instance type. It also includes 24/7 cloudimg support with a guaranteed 24-hour response. You pay one combined rate per running hour for the instance size you select.
The software fee meters running time only. A stopped or fully powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage, such as EBS volumes and snapshots, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
You change cost by switching instance types. Stop the instance, select a type with more vCPU, memory, or GPU, and restart it at that type's hourly rate. Smaller types lower your rate. You can also run more instances in parallel, with each billed separately per hour.
