This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use Neo4j Community graph database with the Neo4j Browser. Store and explore connected data with simple Cypher queries, with unique passwords for every instance.
Neo4j is a graph database that stores data as nodes and relationships, which makes connected data simple to model and fast to query. Teams use it for recommendation engines, fraud detection, knowledge graphs, identity and access maps, and as a store for AI retrieval. This image gives developers and data teams a ready Neo4j server in minutes, with the browser console open and waiting.
What is included: Neo4j Community 2026.08.1 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Java, the Neo4j Browser on port 7474 and the Bolt protocol on port 7687 for drivers and tools. Memory settings are tuned for the server. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own neo4j user password, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Neo4j Community Edition is open source software licensed under GPL-3.0. Neo4j is a trademark of Neo4j, Inc. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open the Neo4j Browser on port 7474 and run your first Cypher query. Neo4j Community and Java are already installed and tuned.
Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. The neo4j user gets its own password on first boot, so there is no default neo4j/neo4j login to change, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
Made for connected data: recommendations, fraud detection, knowledge graphs, network maps and AI retrieval, queried with the readable Cypher language.

Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the Amazon EC2 instance that runs this image. The software itself is community edition open-source, so there is no license fee in the hourly rate. Pricing scales with the instance you pick. The many options map to EC2 families: compute (c), general purpose (m), memory (r, x, z), storage (d, i, h), and GPU or accelerated (g, p, inf, trn, f, vt). Larger sizes within each family cost more per hour. You also pay AWS separately for storage and other cloud usage. Choose the instance that fits your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What exactly am I paying for in the hourly rate, since the software is open-source?
You pay for the Amazon EC2 instance-hour you choose. The software is the community edition, which carries no license key or license fee. You also pay AWS separately for storage and other cloud usage. The rate meters the running instance by the hour.
Am I charged the hourly rate when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly rate. You may still pay AWS for attached storage, such as EBS volumes, while the instance is stopped. Billing follows actual running hours.
How do I decide which instance family to pick, and does it change my hourly cost?
Each family suits a different workload: compute (c), general purpose (m), memory (r, x, z), storage (d, i, h), and GPU or accelerated (g, p, inf, trn). You pick one instance. Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour. Match the instance to your graph database needs.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
Existing servers keep running as they are and need no action. New launches get this version. To apply the same Ubuntu security fixes to a server you already run, connect over SSH and run sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade.
Neo4j Community 2026.10.1 (was 2026.08.1) on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Java and the Neo4j Browser, with all current Ubuntu security updates, including the Brotli library fix for CVE-2026-111497.
A unique neo4j user password is set for every instance on first boot.
Includes helper scripts in /home/ubuntu/iscripts for changing passwords.
Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, open the Neo4j Browser at http://<instance-public-ip>:7474. Connect with neo4j as the username and your instance ID as the password. Applications and drivers connect over Bolt at bolt://<instance-public-ip>:7687 with the same login. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 7474 (Neo4j Browser) and 7687 (Bolt). For security, allow these ports only from your own IP address or your application servers.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Change the password after your first sign-in: run ALTER CURRENT USER SET PASSWORD FROM in the Neo4j Browser, or connect over SSH and run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_neo4j.sh. neo4j_status.sh in the same folder shows the version and health.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
