You pay by the hour for this hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10 image. Pricing is usage-based, so you are billed only for the hours each instance runs. There are no upfront commitments. The many dimensions all map to specific Amazon EC2 instance types, grouped into families like general purpose (m, t), compute (c), memory (r, x), storage (i, d), and accelerated computing (g, p, inf, trn). Within each family, the hourly rate scales with instance size, from nano and large up to metal and multi-terabyte options. You choose the instance type that matches your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for this hardened RHEL image?
One hour covers the software licence running on a single chosen EC2 instance type. You pay the hourly rate tied to that instance size. Each running instance meters its own hours separately. Pricing follows the exact instance type you launch, from nano sizes up to metal and multi-terabyte options.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still bill separately through AWS. The hourly rate restarts when you power the instance back on.
How does my cost change if I switch to a larger instance type?
The hourly rate is tied to each instance type. Moving from a smaller size to a larger one changes the rate to that type's rate. Changes apply per instance, not retroactively. You can pick a type matching your workload and switch when your needs change.
