What do you like best about the product?

I use IBM Cognos Analytics for reporting, dashboards, data visualization, and data analysis. I like its tools, including Framework Manager, Event Studio, Report Studio, and Query Studio. I use them to build reports, analyze data, create data models and Cognos packages, and create events. The initial setup was good; we have it on-prem with three servers.

What do you dislike about the product?

I sometimes have issues with report performance, and I need to add more resources to IBM Cognos Analytics.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use IBM Cognos Analytics for reporting, dashboards, data visualization, and data analysis.

What do you like best about the product?

I use IBM Cognos Analytics to create complex reports on financial, student, and grants data. I appreciate the accurate data points and how it helps me handle complex data modeling and build data packages for real-time, ad hoc reports or reports I can share instantly. I like the graphical user interface and how easy it is to build reports. The AI assistant lets me create a report by chatting, confirm the scope I want, and build it in 30 seconds or a minute. I can also use it to change the report layout and design, and I was really impressed with how it helps format reports. I like scheduling reports and building packages in IBM Framework Manager that I can bring into IBM Cognos Analytics, giving many users a centralized place to create reports. With help from IBM support, setup became easier over time.

What do you dislike about the product?

The initial setup wasn’t fairly easy, though it got easier with help from the IBM support team. I think Event Studio could improve its notifications when reports or schedules fail, including giving users the reason for the failure. The admin GUI could also be improved with a dashboard or chatbot-style questions and answers to help admins find root causes, such as which reports are running long or which schedules are stressing the server.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use IBM Cognos Analytics to get accurate data points for fiscal-year and semester reports. It helps me handle complex data modeling and build data packages, so I can create real-time ad hoc reports or share reports instantly.

What do you like best about the product?

I love how IBM Cognos Analytics manages data and lets me customize it in different ways. I really enjoy how simple the deployments are, the options for bringing in data using CSV and other sources, and the UI.

What do you dislike about the product?

In the cloud storage connection it is used on user based but if we can role based to authentication and moreover while doing the DR we need to do some manual changes which is kind of annoying but it is good

I mostly use IBM Cognos Analytics for visualization; it helps me visualize data.

it is very helpful to the users in running the reports

it is quite expensive and there is steep learning curve involved

What do you like best about the product?

It’s easy to use for both developers and end users. The dashboards give executives the data they need to review in meetings and present to board members. Upgrades are very easy to deploy and customer service is awesome.

What do you dislike about the product?

So far, I haven’t found anything I don’t like. The only area I’m still exploring is the audit functions, especially for reviewing how datasets and data modules are being used.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Bug fixes are delivered at a fast pace.

What do you like best about the product?

I like being able to get reports done and do metadata mapping. When there’s a lot of legacy data but not much information, the features help us make sense of it, figure things out, and create metadata.

What do you dislike about the product?

I think the biggest issue is Cognos’s resource needs and how they compare with other competitors. There aren’t a lot of people in the Cognos world anymore, so handling requests, enabling resources, and training can be a challenge, especially with customers’ legacy environments. I haven’t done any new setup, but from what I see on the support side, it doesn’t look that easy for customers. Unless customers already have Cognos, there are a lot of other alternatives available.

I use IBM Cognos Analytics to help my customers get reports done and move dashboards forward. It also helps us make sense of legacy data through mapping and metadata.

The IBM brand is the only benefit I can think of

What do you dislike about the product?

Limitations. Organizations are moving towards PowerBI and creating their own internal datalakes. Cognos integrations are limited and Cognos integration with IBM OpenPages is impossible

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

IBM Cognos Analytics is very closely integrated with IBM OpenPages, however, that is the benefit. It is required if we want to do complex reporting out of IBM OpenPages.

The evolution and continuous improvements. governance

It's difficult for some people to master, some features lag behind the industry

As a consultant I have used all facets of the product, which is enterprise level ready

It integrates very well with my reporting platform through SDK

SDK introduces vulnerabilities, API integration is on the way but still in early phase.
