User-friendly tools elevate visual insights and boost reporting automation

  • July 29, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Tableau is to develop dashboards and automate the reporting process.

What is most valuable?

The best features of Tableau that I admire the most are that it's user-friendly, intuitive, and the visual aspect is impressive.

I have used interactive dashboards for real-time data collaboration, and they are beneficial because they give insight in a way that's visually appealing to the user. The tendency to retain the information is larger than a standard report.

What needs improvement?

I had a thought about how Tableau can be improved regarding the visuals and borders. I had a frustrating time with the borders a few weeks ago. When trying to make them all the same and shade the border, you have to shade all four sides. You cannot create a line per side. It's one of those small nuances where it's all general, and you cannot make specific changes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have approximately eight years of experience working with Tableau.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

I'm a user and did not use an integrator, reseller, or consultant for my deployment, as the people from data architectures are the ones that deploy it. Once everything is set up, I just use it, and I don't have experience setting it up.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Tableau is pretty good, as I have not encountered anything problematic. What I appreciate about Tableau is that they have updates periodically, and some of those updates are actually quite useful.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Regarding the scalability of Tableau, I think it can scale effectively. It's capable of handling large amounts of data. I haven't encountered any scalability issues, as I haven't worked with data volumes that caused trouble running.

How are customer service and support?

I'm not in a position to fully rate the technical support from Tableau, as I've had limited interaction with them. However, based on my experience, I would rate them a nine. They do respond and are pretty responsive to their clients.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have substantial experience with solutions in the analytics industry. I was searching for tools because my company was looking for information to compare different options, which led me to the Peer platform. I have experience with Tableau and Power BI, but I don't have Domo experience.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Tableau is relatively easy for me, as I've been using Tableau for a while now.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have experience with the main differences between Tableau and Power BI, and understand the pros and cons between these tools. Generally, the visuals are nicer in Tableau, but there's a wider array of functionalities to choose from in Power BI. That's the main difference, including the formulas.

What other advice do I have?

They're still exploring the primary cloud provider for Tableau, so I'm not sure yet which direction the company plans to take.

I'm not sure if I purchased this solution directly through the AWS marketplace.

I don't normally use Tableau for the analytics capabilities such as ad hoc analysis, as I usually just use Excel for that.

Regarding the price of Tableau that I used to think was expensive, they've changed their pricing model recently. There's no minimum number of viewers that you have to purchase. A company can purchase just a few creator licenses and mostly viewers, so pricing-wise it's competitive. It can compete with solutions Power BI.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate Tableau an 8.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization

  • May 30, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We have implemented Tableau for visualization, and that experience has been good, as we have been using Azure AI Foundry rigorously since the last two months, which has also been a good experience. I think that it's a new service that they launched roughly a year back.

We have been using Tableau for the last eight to nine years, and that is a good solution. The experience has been good; though, customization is not so easy. By customization, I mean, for example, we are thinking of introducing an NLP-based feature, exposing a REST API into the solution, and that sort of thing is not easily done. Otherwise, as far as the BI tool is concerned, Tableau is quite good.

What is most valuable?

Tableau is quite easy to develop dashboards with, and the range of dashboards is good. The drag-and-drop features are also quite good.

Tableau is quite scalable; on a scale of one to ten, it would rate as a ten for scalability.

Tableau's stability is highly stable, and it would rate at a nine.

What needs improvement?

Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task.

AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher.

ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Tableau for the last eight to nine years.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate Tableau's technical support as good, rating it at a nine.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have had experiences working with IBM SPSS Modeler, which is IBM PASW, but it wouldn't be relevant feedback because they offered it for free, and it was end of life. The IBM PASW was outdated around five years back, so we shifted to Python-based solutions, open source.

It was a fine solution, but since things in this field in AI/ML are constantly changing, my experience with IBM PASW, where SPSS Modeler was the major component, wasn't so great. The product is outdated, and they have removed it from their suite of software offerings.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Tableau was easy; it wasn't difficult at all.

What about the implementation team?

Initially, we got Tableau through a reseller, and the deployment was done by that third party. Later on, we took the deployment in-house, and most of our subsequent deployments were done internally.

What was our ROI?

It's very difficult to calculate an ROI for these sorts of initiatives because you cannot directly convert it into manpower savings or similar metrics. However, we have performed some cost-benefit analysis, and we derive benefits from Tableau primarily in terms of data and dashboards being made available for respective views throughout the organization. While ROI calculation is slightly difficult because you cannot associate revenue with certain dashboarding activities, we assess some cost benefits.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of Tableau is on the higher side compared to other competitors, such as QlikView or Microsoft Power BI.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

An important point is that you can easily find resources who have worked on Tableau, but with ThoughtSpot, finding a resource with that experience might be difficult.

What other advice do I have?

As far as dashboarding and connecting to various databases are concerned, Tableau is quite good. I rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Combining advanced data handling with room for improvement in user support

  • May 19, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use cases with Tableau include working on the migration of dashboards from legacy systems to cloud-based solutions, such as migrating from Looker to Tableau Dashboard or Power BI to Tableau Dashboard. Recently, since the acquisition by Salesforce, the demand in the Tableau space has decreased compared to Power BI, as many clients are moving towards Power BI due to its more affordable licensing and the appealing use cases that it offers.

Tableau has recently announced the Tableau Next platform, which is exciting, but there are still uncertainties about how it will pan out compared to other BI tools in the market. Currently, our focus is primarily on dashboard development and migration between platforms, setting up business architectures, recommending tools based on user requirements, and conducting benchmarking to understand market offerings. Tableau is my main tool, and I continuously explore what's happening in the space to determine if Tableau is performing better or what innovations are on the horizon.

What is most valuable?

When comparing Tableau to other BI tools, they are generally on par, but the drag-and-drop feature in Tableau is user-friendly, and it handles large data sets more effectively than Power BI. Tableau's ability to manage extensive data, even in an extract format, is noteworthy, as Power BI struggles with that.

Creating dashboards and performing calculations in Tableau is quite straightforward and provides a better user experience compared to Power BI, which can feel more outdated. Although Tableau comes at a premium, the performance on the cloud platform and the overall ease of use for developers are significant advantages, even though it isn't designed for tabular reporting some users, particularly in finance, desire.

What needs improvement?

From a customer's point of view, I have noted that after the acquisition by Salesforce, the customer service for Tableau has declined significantly. I have observed this during my interactions, particularly a couple of months back, where the responsiveness and quality of service were lacking. There are many areas for improvement, especially considering the issues experienced in navigation and rendering services on Tableau Cloud, which I believe could be addressed more effectively.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Tableau for seven years or more.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate support at around six out of ten based on my experiences, which have involved back and forth communication and delayed responses, even with a customer representative. While I understand that Platinum customers receive prioritized support, there should be consistent standards for all users.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

What was our ROI?

Tableau can be a cost-effective tool, providing a good return on investment, especially for analyzing large datasets. However, for a medium-sized company that does not handle as much data, Power BI might be a more suitable option. The choice ultimately depends on the organization's specific data volumes and the complexity of its analytical needs.

For companies managing billions of records and complex KPIs, Tableau is a worthwhile investment. The key is evaluating how many dashboards are necessary daily and how they justify the incurred costs. Power BI, being cheaper, is a more viable option for lower data requirements.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Regarding pricing, while I cannot comment on specific user licenses, Tableau is indeed more expensive than Power BI. The difference is not excessively high though; it's manageable in the grand scheme of things, though Looker is known to be quite expensive.

What other advice do I have?

We are a review website requesting feedback to create articles that help people considering this tool to understand it better, including all the benefits and useful features it can bring. This feedback is used for research and slightly for the development or improvement of the tool, as vendors such as Tableau and Salesforce sometimes visit the website to check what people think about their tools and potentially improve them. The reviewer has requested to remain anonymous.

My current rating for Tableau is around seven. I've noticed some recent changes that could impact this rating further, so while I'd previously rate it higher, I think it's fair to mark it at six and a half to seven for now.

Visualization and market research are enhanced with valuable insights

  • May 19, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I am supporting a product company for market analysis and market research where we are using Tableau.

For retargeting and validating purchasing decisions, we use AI to create visualizations for predicting spending habits for the next six months for different categories.

What is most valuable?

The most effective features of Tableau for data analysis are visualization, comparison, and data analysis, which is much practical in this kind of project.

We are using AI features in Tableau.

For retargeting and validating purchasing decisions, we use AI to create visualizations for predicting spending habits for the next six months for different categories.

What needs improvement?

The interface needs improvement as sometimes it is locked, and it takes some time for the visualization and dashboards to load. There is some delay if the data volume is high, and the failure log is not always practical.

The failure log sometimes does not give every detail about why the data has failed.

Installing Tableau is not easy.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Tableau for around four years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to handle large sets of data as Tableau supports large data sets, and it is all about structuring and defining the data.

I rate the scalability of Tableau as nine as it is very scalable.

It is not expensive to scale.

How are customer service and support?

I rate technical support from Salesforce around ten, as the support is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

What was our ROI?

Tableau is saving me time, money, and resources, which I would rate as ten.

I see the savings around 20 to 25%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Regarding pricing, I consider it around six.

It is a bit on the pricey side, so I rate it around six.

What other advice do I have?

Failure-related data sometimes does not seem practical, but that is acceptable.

While maintenance is a core task, it is easier compared to any other product.

Maintenance is taken care of by another team. I am a service provider and only look into market intelligence elements as a strategic consultant for them.

I am a founder who supports consulting and product development, market strategy, and software development for different clients.

My email is satyawrat@mindclickconsulting.com.

I rate Tableau overall around 8.5.

Drill-down and interactivity provide detailed data analysis for quick decision-making

  • April 23, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use Tableau for providing business insights. Instead of depending on Excel files, I provide information to the business users to make quicker decisions.

What is most valuable?

The drill-down approach and interactivity in Tableau are highly effective. Users can filter out specific information they are looking into. The interactive, action-based approach allows for detailed data analysis. For example, if I want to drill down from state information to region-wise information, I can click on a region, and the dashboard filters out to show performance analysis of that specific region.

What needs improvement?

Tableau currently lacks some modern features like AI generative approaches, video type analytics, voice command, and some predictive analytics features. These are limitations I hope will be addressed in future versions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Tableau for the last five years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Deployment requires a Tableau Bridge when connecting from Tableau Cloud to an on-prem server, which can be tricky. This process takes a couple of days for configuration and setup.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There have been issues where suddenly the site will not respond, requiring a restart. The application hangs after continuous use due to the buildup of cache, necessitating manual clearing of temporary files to restore functionality.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Tableau is easy to scale. For an increasing number of users, it's straightforward to approach the sales department for an extension.

How are customer service and support?

I am mostly satisfied with Salesforce's support, rating it nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I worked with Business Objects of SAP. I stopped using it about one and a half years ago.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is very easy and doesn't require much time.

What was our ROI?

The main cost-saving aspect is reducing resource costs by investing in a Tableau license and developer, which decreases the need for several MIS personnel.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Tableau licensing costs vary based on the number of user licenses. For example, a license for 150 users costs around $17,000 USD per year. However, the cost is justified as it reduces the need for other resources.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Some clients consider Power BI due to its cost-effectiveness. However, I still recommend Tableau for its superior functionality compared to Power BI.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Tableau as a pure data analytics tool that provides more insights to business users in a much easier way than other market tools. My overall rating for Tableau is nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Efficient content management improves access control and streamlines reporting

  • April 16, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use Tableau mostly for reporting and dashboarding purposes. I utilize Power Platform when I require numerous business rules and need a quick prototype. For enterprise reporting, I use TIBCO Spotfire. Although I do not use Tableau directly, my customers' companies do.

What is most valuable?

The most beneficial feature of Tableau for me is its user interface, which offers a quick and easy drag-and-drop facility. Another advantage is the site administration, allowing for efficient content management and security without requiring server admin intervention. This ease of maintaining content and managing access control at the site level distinguishes Tableau from Spotfire, where admin duties are restricted and can cause delays.

What needs improvement?

I find that customizations in Tableau are not intuitive, and it should be easier to write HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The usual technical support is not up to the mark unless it is elite support. Pricing is also a concern for me as it is expensive compared to TIBCO Spotfire Enterprise licensing and Microsoft Power Platform.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been familiar with Tableau for close to ten years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Tableau's data blending capabilities are an added feature, but I do not frequently use them because data is often properly structured in databases and data warehouses before reporting.

How are customer service and support?

I find Tableau's technical support to be good with elite support, but it struggles with usual, general support. Two years ago, I rated the usual support six or seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think Tableau is expensive compared to TIBCO Spotfire Enterprise licensing and Microsoft's Azure and Power Platform.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I work with TIBCO Spotfire, Power BI, and a little bit of Tableau in addition to Microsoft Azure products.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, Tableau is a very good tool. I would rate it eight out of ten. For business visualization, I would still recommend Tableau to others.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Gain clarity in financial presentations and face challenges with data preparation

  • April 14, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We mainly use Tableau for financial presentations.

What is most valuable?

Tableau is extremely good at dashboard creation, providing clear and concise visual presentations. The most beneficial feature is its ability to present data cleanly and effectively. However, setting it up and using it with large datasets can be challenging. Tableau excels in visualization, making presentations efficient.

What needs improvement?

I find data prepping in Tableau challenging to understand, perhaps because I am new to it. It sometimes requires extensive investigation to determine why the data does not appear correctly. Currently, I rely on community support to answer my queries, and it is still early for me to provide further comments on improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Tableau for less than a year.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

There were challenges in getting accustomed to the functionality of Tableau, especially since I am used to Microsoft products. Certain criteria needed a lot of experimentation, particularly in data prepping. Sometimes the data doesn't appear as expected, leading to extensive investigative work.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not faced any issues with the stability of Tableau.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I am still working towards understanding the scalability of Tableau. Currently, I have not encountered any limitations, but I am still exploring and replacing current tools. It is too early to comment on scalability issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Microsoft Power BI. Power BI seems more powerful for data massaging and processing compared to Tableau. However, Tableau is superior in terms of visualization.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was a bit challenging, particularly because I was used to Microsoft products. It took some time to get certain criteria right, but it has become easier over time.

What about the implementation team?

The setup was conducted through my IT team, who provided me with the license.

What was our ROI?

We have not derived any significant benefits yet as we are still in the exploration stage, except for one time-saving achievement.

What other advice do I have?

If you have many presentations, I recommend Tableau. However, if your focus is on heavy data processing or data prepping, Tableau may not be the best choice. I would rate Tableau a 7 out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
