What do you like best about the product?

The best thing about this platform is that it gives us total data sovereignty because, unlike managed cloud IDEs, Coder runs on your own infrastructure so code never leaves your private cloud or data center, and environments are defined as code, making it trivial to spin up, rebuild, or mirror production settings.

What do you dislike about the product?

The most dislike for me is scaling bottlenecks because managing high concurrency performance limits or massive multi-gigabyte repositories can strain self-hosted storage and cluster nodes, and bootstrapping the control plane, identity providers, and network proxies can be difficult for smaller teams.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

The problem it is solving is data and IP security risks because it keeps source code, credentials, and heavy AI workloads off local developer laptops and traditional expensive virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) setups. The benefit is uniform governance because it applies single sign-on (SSO), role-based access control (RBAC), and activity audit logs across both human engineers and automated AI agents.

What do you like best about the product?

The consistency of the remote workspaces makes troubleshooting much less painful. When a developer or freelancer reports an environment-related issue, I can usually spin up or inspect a comparable workspace with the same tools and dependencies already in place. That reduces the usual “it works on my machine” back-and-forth and helps us get to the real problem faster. Connecting through VS Code feels natural, and the templates make it easier to keep setups repeatable, especially when we’re testing different support scenarios.

What do you dislike about the product?

Workspace startup times can be inconsistent, and larger or more complex templates sometimes take longer than I expect. Early on, I also found the learning curve around permissions and template management took some time to get comfortable with. When a specific workspace isn’t behaving as expected, figuring out what’s going on can require more digging than I’d like, which is especially frustrating during a busy support shift.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

In the past, environment-related support tickets usually meant either trying to recreate someone’s setup locally or asking users to send long lists of version numbers and configuration details. That process slowed down resolution and sometimes led to inconsistent results. With Coder, we now have more standardized environments that we can reference or spin up quickly when needed. As a result, onboarding new technical users is smoother and faster, and we spend much less time tracking down configuration differences from one machine to another.

What do you like best about the product?

The best feature is built-in AI governance because this platform explicitly manages sandboxed environments where human developers and AI coding agents can work side by side. It features built-in security layers like an agent firewall to audit token usage and limit what network resources an AI can access.

What do you dislike about the product?

The most hated part for me is the steep setup complexity because when you are configuring edge case features like GPU orchestration for machine learning, workforce-specialized Docker-in-Docker setups, or complex dev containers, it takes significant initial engineering efforts.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

For me, it helps solve my 'works on my machine' syndrome because when I use different OS versions and mismatched library dependencies, forgotten local configurations lead to situations where developers' code works perfectly on my laptop but breaks immediately in production. It benefits me because it saves a massive amount of time as I can onboard to a new project and spin a perfectly configured, ready-to-code workspace in less than two minutes.

What do you like best about the product?

I like the infrastructure as code workspace feature of this platform because workspaces are defined using standard Terraform templates. If you want to update a tool or package for the whole engineering department, you update one template and everyone's workspace updates automatically.

What do you dislike about the product?

The most disliked part is the operational overhead because it is self-managed rather than a plug-and-play SaaS. Your platform engineering teams are entirely responsible for maintaining the control plane, database, networking, and security patches.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

For me, it is solving my AI & security paradox because modern developers like me and autonomous AI agents require massive computing power or GPU and deep access to the codebase. However, letting AI agents run freely on local enterprise laptops introduces massive data leakage, prompt injection, and malware risks. Security teams frequently block these tools out of caution and benefit because it helps coders or developers to work freely everywhere in every environment, and I don't want to change my environment again and again for different projects.

What do you like best about the product?

The best feature of this platform, in my opinion, is its IDE agnosticism. Developers can use a browser-based editor or securely tunnel their local desktop IDEs like VSCode or JetBrains directly into the remote workspace without giving up their local setup.

What do you dislike about the product?

The thing I dislike most is the feature gap in the free tier. While the open-source community edition is highly functional, critical enterprise features like advanced role-based access controls (RBAC) and detailed multitenant auditing require a paid license.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

In my opinion, the benefit of using this platform is the reduction in onboarding and context switching overhead. Setting up a local machine for a complex enterprise project can take days of installing tools and cloning repositories. If a developer needs to jump between three projects, their local environment often becomes cluttered and corrupted. Additionally, it's beneficial because if I leave my workspace running overnight, the platform automatically spins it down to prevent runaway cloud bills.

What do you like best about the product?

The best feature of this platform is that it gives us full ownership and privacy for their users and their data because if we think about self-hosted architecture, it means code and data never have to leave your infrastructure and supports a wide range of custom images, tools, and identity providers.

What do you dislike about the product?

The most dislike for me is that it is fully dependent on the internet and needs a good network, requiring a good active network connectivity. Offline and low bandwidth usage is severely limited, and I dislike it so much.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

The problem I faced was that I don't have a high GPU laptop, so sometimes I can't do my work on a platform for these coding tasks. But after using this, we don't need high GPUs for our workload and to run AI agents on these GPUs on-premises. It is beneficial for me because it can be deployed on the customer's own public cloud or on-premises Kubernetes/Docker clusters using Terraform.

What do you like best about the product?

The best part of this platform is its AI-ready architecture with built-in safeguards like agent firewall and AI bridge, allowing safe integration of agentic coding tools and providing a massive productivity boost. It offers instant project switching and pre-baked dependencies that cut down debugging and setup friction.

What do you dislike about the product?

The most disliked part for me is the complex setup for advanced features. When configuring edge cases like custom GPU passthrough or specific devcontainers, enterprise policy integrations can have a steep learning curve. Certain governance, scaling, and deep enterprise features require the paid Coder Premium tier.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

From my use, I think it solves the problem of slow onboarding by slashing initial environment and project setup times from weeks or days down to minutes via automated templates. It is beneficial for me because it provides engineers and security teams with strict RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), audit logs, and agent firewalls to monitor usage, token consumption, and network reach.

What do you like best about the product?

The best thing about this platform is that it provides data & security control because its self-hosted architecture keeps code away from public cloud-hosted IDE vendors and works natively with VS Code, JetBrains, and SSH-based tools.

What do you dislike about the product?

The most bad thing which I feel about this platform is that writing and maintaining Terraform-based workspace templates requires DevOps or platform engineering skills and requires a steady network connection.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

According to my usage, I think for me it is solving the main problem of security & data exfiltration risks because it keeps intellectual property, source code, and AI agents' workload off unmanaged employees' laptops and inside a secure, company-controlled network, and it is beneficial to me because it is very cost-efficient for small teams and single individuals.

What do you like best about the product?

Very good and satisfying. I use Coder to run coding AI agents and for deep tech work, and it has handled everything I tried. It's developer friendly and gives free ways to customise it and use it ourselves. The guides and support are great too. I also use many of their open source apps and code. Not knowing about Coder would have been a real loss for me.

What do you dislike about the product?

Nothing much, if so I felt maybe initially to onboard when I was not into tech was a difficult thing. If you could bridge it, it would be good.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Coder to run coding AI agents and to do deep technical work, and it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it so far. It’s very developer-friendly, and I like that it offers free ways to customize it and run it ourselves.

What do you like best about the product?

The way it integrates with GitHub and Slack, making collaboration seamless.

What do you dislike about the product?

Permissions setup was confusing at first and needed adjustments.
