I inherited the WOWZA account at work
What do you like best about the product?
I like that it is a pure streaming service and not something affiliated with social media/major online companies, etc. I'm not an expert and was able to figure out how to use it with OBS software pretty quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm just a digital generalist, not a video expert, so I have nothing to compare WOWZA to. So no complaints.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We host free live events and like to stream them as well.

Even on a Mac Mini, WOWZA gets the job done!
What do you like best about the product?
WOWZA is a super reliable, effecient media server empowering our orgaization to deliver lprogramming live and on demand. We have been using WOWZA for over 20 years, starting on an Apple Xserver. Our WOWZA now resides on older Mac Mini (3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5) and is easily able to keep up with the demand for our programming. Maintence is almost non-existant, save for the yealy renewal of our Streamlock certificate. It just works!
What do you dislike about the product?
Initial configuration can be a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it is easy to alter and add functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With our internal WOWZA server, we are able to host an enorous amount of archived programming since we can use cheap, local storage.
Great product and customer service
What do you like best about the product?
Wowza is ready to use, reliable, and their customer service is prompt and useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really. It's a great streaming service.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I need a way to distribute or stream to our website as well as to Roku. Wowza allows us to do that easily.
Has worked reliably for us for many years.
What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility. Has many customizable options. Using stream targets between applications has been handy. We've used it reliably for many years.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initial configuration with GPU acceleration for transcoding has been problematic.
Also wish there was a way to quickly see which applications are active and also be able to terminate a stream that has accidentally be left running w/out needing to change PW on the app.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a live streaming provider, it's perhaps our most vital application coupled with a good CDN.
Wowza review
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to set up and use but allows a wide range of customization.
There are plenty of Java plugins for Wowza, and it is quite easy to write your own.
Other systems can easily integrate with Wowza.
It is market standard so it is tested on many devices and problems with streaming even strange ones are rare and rather easily solvable.

What do you dislike about the product?
Wowza does not support new streaming technology like AV1.
It does not fully support subtitles for live channels (doable, but requires quite a work and not standard solutions)
Tickets created by support are not visible to the client, so we often report something and have to check if it is implemented in the new version, without proper information from the Wowza team.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Streaming live TV for users.
Wowza is a no-issue streaming engine.
What do you like best about the product?
It’s a very reliable platform for both live streaming and VoD, offering a lot of flexibility for encoding, transcoding, and distributing videos. It supports a wide range of protocols—like HLS, RTMP, and WebRTC—along with its cloud integrations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Wowza offers a lot of features, but this can make the setup process complex for new users who are not familiar with streaming technology. In our case - beginners felt that there is a steep learning curve.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Wowza provides a scalable architecture that can handle both high volumes of viewers and large amounts of content. It supports dynamic bandwidth allocation and adaptive bitrate streaming (ABR), ensuring that streams are delivered at optimal quality based on the viewer's internet connection and device capabilities.
PAYG streaming - quick, easy and affordable
What do you like best about the product?
We've used Wowza on and off for many years - the quality of the encoders and the recently updated FlowPlayer are pretty hard to beat, particularly at the price point (you can go down a fantastic rabbithole of customising FlowPlayer to match your site with the FlowPlayer add-ons)
Embedding is as simple as a line of code that is generated by the site when you create your stream (and all the encoding options get auto generated but are stil available to adjust as you see fit - nothing seems to be hidden away here!)
A great recent addition has been improving the speed of download on the saved stream footage - previously an 8-hour day would take almost an hour from request to actually starting a download. Now it's much quicker and I can't say how much more usable this has made Wowza (thank you, you've literally cut hours off our tunr-around times!)
Although the customer service times seem quite slow for PAYG customers, I've never had to wait that long to get help (and in 'critical' time sensitive matters they do seem to reply quickly)

What do you dislike about the product?
Over the past few years, every little annoyance seems to have been ironed out of the platform meaning that my dislike is a little bit of my impatience!
For the PAYG, it'd be nice if they had a tally of current charges outstanding on your account.
The prices for PAYG clearly displayed, they tell you how much data you've used each day but you need to work out the price yourself (I know, basic multiplication, but it'd be nice if they could add this into their fantastic platform

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Occasionally we need to run multiple streams over conflicting times meaning we run out of available streams on our main provider. Wowza's PAYG has a (seemingly) limitless amount of streams available, customising our FlowPlayer to look 'close enough' to our main streams is easy and to be completely honest, none of our end users could tell that we had 2 separate back-end services providing streams!
Wowza is reliable and a necessity for our application.
What do you like best about the product?
We use Wowza as our live streaming solution inside of our application. The reliablibility and flexibility is a necessity for us and Wowza provides seamless integration. It is used daily as our solution for live streaming. We have not had to reach for customer support very often, but when we did, the response was quick and helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Off hand, I really can't think of any negatives. We haven't ever experienced any outages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use 3rd party cameras with a proprietary firmware for to show live streaming on construction sites for our customers. This allows our customers to see what is happening on a job site without having to travel to the site, which saves them time and money.
Wowza is a simple software pacakage, s
What do you like best about the product?
Control panel allows a detailed setup of all aspects that involve a live broadcast. Fast and easy integration through API.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the bugs are extremely difficult to debug. We had a recurring issue where the server would suddenly become unresponsive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it at the moment only for playout of VOD files
