Cohesity NetBackup Enterprise
Centralized monitoring has saved hours daily and improves how I manage multi‑environment backups
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Veritas Alta Data Protection involves data cloud data and on-premise data from NetBackup and storages from Hitachi, IBM, and multiple storages.
A specific example of how I use Veritas Alta Data Protection in a typical workflow is connecting to the primary server, which is the main part of the solution for backup, where I give permissions to collect job details, size of the jobs, details of the schedules, and more services I use to create reports about the SLA and other metrics of our environment.
Day-to-day, I use Veritas Alta Data Protection to monitor multiple environments, which is useful because I can connect 10, 20, or any primary servers in the same glass pane, helping me maintain the health of my environment.
How has it helped my organization?
Veritas Alta Data Protection has positively impacted my organization by reducing rework because it centers the data in a single pane and facilitates administration by sending reports to my email, allowing me to focus my work on the last errors in the environment.
Since I started using Veritas Alta Data Protection, I have saved 20 beginning hours of the day that I previously spent generating reports manually or collecting data in the environment. Now I open the email at the start of the day and in five minutes I get the picture of the environment, which reduces my workload drastically.
What is most valuable?
The best features that Veritas Alta Data Protection offers are the reports, as they provide a great experience by sending reports by email, SNMP trap, and allowing customization of some reports. I mainly use the pre-models in the environment, but in some cases I need to configure it for customer requests.
The reporting helps me significantly as I can configure a schedule to send an email, allowing me to receive results from the last window of backup, and in some cases the last 24 hours or 12 hours, depending on the environment.
I use the reports and the single pane, which are the main features for me.
What needs improvement?
Veritas Alta Data Protection can be improved by accepting more sources such as cloud environments, native cloud environments, native cloud storages, or cloud storages on-premise, not just limited to backup tools, as I believe this would be a great improvement for the tool.
Regarding needed improvements, I find the user interface is very easy to use and I do not feel the need to change anything, but I would like to see integrations with more sources and more reports.
I rate it a nine because I believe it could reach a ten with more sources and reports and the possibility to create more reports or integrate with other tools. I believe I have covered the necessary features and improvements for Veritas Alta Data Protection, and there are no other small things I remember at this time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veritas Alta Data Protection for the last seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veritas Alta Data Protection is stable in my experience.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of Veritas Alta Data Protection is great, as I do not have problems with one master or two primaries or three, four, or 10 primaries. It is usable for me.
How are customer service and support?
Regarding customer support, the change of Veritas cell to curiosity is a little hard to get better support now, but I have a good experience overall.
I rate the customer support a seven out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I do not use any other solution. I use the backup tool directly.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment in terms of time saved. I reduce two hours of my day, as before Veritas Alta Data Protection I needed two hours to check our environments. Now I receive an email with details, which reduces troubleshooting time and allows more time for other tasks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is based on a license for some customers and environment quests, but I do not have experience with the pricing.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate Veritas Alta Data Protection a nine.
Regarding Veritas Alta Data Protection's AI capabilities, I see some materials about this new interface and integration with AI, which I believe poses no risk for governance since it uses metadata, not explicit data access. My concern is that the security team needs to grant access only to authorized people and maintain security breaches closed to a restricted group of people.
The results from Veritas Alta Data Protection are very reliable. I have tested it in some cases, but I have not used it for work proposals, though I believe it is useful for creating data manager reports.
Veritas Alta Data Protection is deployed in a public cloud in my organization.
I use Azure as the cloud provider for Veritas Alta Data Protection.
My advice to others looking into using Veritas Alta Data Protection is that if you need a single pane of glass and AI tools, I recommend using Veritas Alta Data Protection.

What I like most about the Snapshot Manager is that it provides agility and speed.
Regarding the characteristics of Veritas Alta Data Protection, that is the main feature; it is an excellent tool.
Veritas Alta Data Protection has positively impacted my organization because it optimized my time. With continuous improvement and optimization for backups of large volumes, it assists in time optimization. It is an excellent tool that has saved me time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veritas Alta Data Protection for one year.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate Veritas Alta Data Protection as 10.
Regarding the AI capabilities of Veritas Alta Data Protection, I think its security, time savings, and management are excellent. There is protection, capability, and security, resulting in a rating of 10 because it is a very good tool. My recommendation to others reading reviews on PeerSpot is that Veritas Alta Data Protection is an excellent solution for data protection and backup management.
Reliable backups have protected critical data and provide fast, secure restores for all platforms
What is our primary use case?
Veritas Alta Data Protection is used for enterprise-level backups in our environment.
What is most valuable?
Easy restore, WORM-capable, and immutable backup features are available in Veritas Alta Data Protection. The all-in-one solution is easy to upgrade, and all sorts of features are available on the Flex Appliance.
Because it is a disk-based solution, restoring takes about five minutes with Veritas Alta Data Protection. Easy access and handling are provided.
All latest technologies have been incorporated in Veritas Alta Data Protection. Multi-factor authentication is enabled, ransomware protection is enabled, and all security checks have been put in place.
Veritas Alta Data Protection is a heterogeneous support product, meaning any product, any operating system, and any environment can be integrated with it.
All operating systems are supported, including file-level, database-level, and some application-level integration with Veritas Alta Data Protection.
Whenever there is a requirement to restore with Veritas Alta Data Protection, data can be returned within ten to twenty minutes.
What needs improvement?
The compression rate on the Flex Appliance of Veritas Alta Data Protection needs to be improved. When compared to EMC Data Domain, although the compression rate feature is present, it needs further improvement.
In our country, because Veritas Alta Data Protection works with a distributor and vendor, the margin is topped up two times. Customers do not receive the real pricing advantage because the distributor keeps a margin, and the vendor also keeps a margin. This is the sales model, and the exchange rates also play a role in our country.
The interfaces in Veritas Alta Data Protection need to be improved. Although significant improvements have been made recently, particularly with the removal of the Java GUI from the structure in favor of Web UI-based interfaces, there is still a learning curve. Since I have been using multiple versions and am more conversant with the Java consoles, I had to transition to the Web UI. Although transitioning to the Web UI should not be difficult, it will require some time to become proficient with it.
For how long have I used the solution?
Veritas Alta Data Protection has been used for more than twenty years, and the Flex Appliance has been in use for nearly two years.
How are customer service and support?
With the enterprise support model for Veritas Alta Data Protection, the technical support is at a level of nine.
What about the implementation team?
Support partners and system integrators implemented Veritas Alta Data Protection for us. The implementation was straightforward with Veritas Alta Data Protection. The seasoned engineers performed the migration.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In our country, because Veritas Alta Data Protection works with a distributor and vendor, the margin is topped up two times. Customers do not receive the real pricing advantage because the distributor keeps a margin, and the vendor also keeps a margin. This is the sales model, and the exchange rates also play a role in our country. Veritas Alta Data Protection was purchased through a reseller, who purchased it through a distributor. The distributor plays a middleman role. However, sometimes they do provide value additions in terms of consultations or technical training. Most often, the product pricing involves a margin shared between multiple parties.
What other advice do I have?
Backups are scheduled and run automatically. Monitoring is performed to ensure the backup and recovery processes run as scheduled.
Veritas Alta Data Protection has an inbuilt reporting feature that is used to review backup and recovery status.
The RPO and RTO status can be improved based on Veritas Alta Data Protection's reporting capabilities, and compliance status reporting helps significantly.

The overall rating for this solution is nine out of ten.
Smooth Office365 Integration with Teams and Exchange in Veritas Alta Data Protection
Robust backups have protected us from ransomware and provide precise granular data recovery
What is our primary use case?
In the last two years, we faced issues with ransomware. Because of the encryption level which we set with this backup software, we were able to restore all of our data without losing a single file.

Veritas Alta Data Protection is not expensive, which makes it scalable and easy to scale with a cost-effective approach.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support is great. I would rate the technical support from Veritas at eight out of ten points. The IVR system should be reduced so that customers can reach support directly, as when someone calls, it is typically for a critical technical issue and the call should connect directly to a representative.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used to try Arcserve, but we found that Veritas Alta Data Protection is much better than Arcserve.
How was the initial setup?
The installation and deployment process is very easy.

We are not currently using WatchGuard, Trellix, SentinelOne, or CyberArk.
What other advice do I have?
We have solid ratings for Veritas Alta Data Protection. My overall review rating for this solution is 9.5 out of 10.
Cloud backups have secured critical data and have enabled fast recovery from ransomware threats
What is our primary use case?
Veritas Alta Data Protection's primary use case is to back up S3 buckets and EC2 instances, containers, or mostly Redis. The primary reason we opted for Veritas Alta Data Protection is to have a DR setup in case we face a ransomware attack on our current AWS environment. It helps to have production data secured in an isolated environment or backed up in an isolated environment. If we face any sort of situation where we get a ransomware attack on our infrastructure, we will be able to restore all our production services pretty fast.
What is most valuable?
I do utilize the automated policy-driven operations with Veritas Alta Data Protection.
They have helped in reducing manual workloads because manual intervention is required to handle errors or backup job failures when trying to back up a particular AWS account where critical resources are deployed. Discovery takes a lot of time because we are backing up data already in the S3 buckets. We often face challenges with resource discovery because discovery does not happen once a month; it happens daily. Every day, the discovery job runs before backing up resources. We may encounter issues in discovery or related to permissions, meaning if we have backup permissions on a bucket but further intensive permissions are present on any particular file, the Veritas Alta Data Protection job will skip that file. At times, backup fails with one or another error, and manual intervention is definitely needed. It is predominantly automated and policy-driven, but manual intervention is also required sometimes.
We tested the effectiveness of Veritas Alta Data Protection's granular restoration feature during POC because we had a requirement to test various scenarios like restoring the bucket in a particular region, restoring the bucket in a different region, restoring EC2 instances, restoring containers, and databases. One more crucial feature for us in selecting Veritas Alta Data Protection is having replication between Veritas Alta Data Protection clusters. Once the primary backup job is complete, Veritas Alta Data Protection runs an SLP job, which is a storage lifecycle policy. This SLP job moves or replicates the data from one Veritas Alta Data Protection cluster to another. If the Veritas Alta Data Protection cluster goes down, the data is still replicated to the other Veritas Alta Data Protection cluster.
What needs improvement?
I would appreciate seeing improvements regarding the upgrade process. I am not certain how smooth it is, but that is the only challenge we have observed so far, which is to have all versions up to date.
I would not comment on specific features missing in Veritas Alta Data Protection since we have only started using it for the past year and do not have extensive experience. However, I know that Veritas Alta Data Protection can be deployed on multiple cloud providers, including Azure and GCP.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veritas Alta Data Protection for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not experienced any performance issues or limitations regarding stability or scalability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not experienced any performance issues or limitations regarding stability or scalability.
How are customer service and support?
Since Veritas Alta Data Protection recently entered the market, it does have limited technical resources for support. Veritas Alta Data Protection tech support primarily sits in different time zones, so when we need assistance, we often have to wait for those resources to come online. This is a challenge for me, especially since I work in APAC, and whenever we engage with Veritas technical support, I must wait for someone in the United States to be available to help with our issue. Veritas needs to improve technical support for other regions as well, which I strongly feel.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before choosing Veritas Alta Data Protection, we were evaluating Cohesity, but Cohesity acquired Veritas' backup operations. Therefore, we opted for Veritas Alta Data Protection, as we are now part of Cohesity, making us a customer of Cohesity.
How was the initial setup?
I was not involved in the initial setup or deployment of Veritas Alta Data Protection. My senior colleagues, including my director and architect, were primarily involved. Veritas provides the deployment, and they provide a document to fill out with specific questions. We mention our details, and they guide us on deployment needs and resource counts, which is straightforward and typically does not take much time as it is infrastructure as code.
What about the implementation team?
I purchased Veritas Alta Data Protection directly from Insights.
What was our ROI?
Regarding cost-effectiveness and return on investment, we have seen benefits in the form of saving time and resources. The only reason we opted for Veritas Alta Data Protection is to protect our users' data, which is PCI, securely in case of a ransomware attack. We can back up our resources directly on AWS, eliminating the need for a Veritas Alta Data Protection cluster. It is not primarily about cost optimization, but more about protecting our organization against ransomware attacks to avoid being brought to its knees.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Regarding the pricing aspect, we received a pretty good discount when we started onboarding all of our backups to Veritas Alta Data Protection. Veritas provided a favorable deal. I am not certain about the specific numbers, but my organization got a good price when we onboarded, and I believe Veritas Alta Data Protection is considerable regarding pricing for new customers.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
On-premises, we used Cohesity and Commvault for backup.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for organizations considering Veritas Alta Data Protection is to make the upgrade process smoother. This is my main piece of advice at this point, along with the need for improved support in other regions. Apart from that, I have not seen anything else since we onboarded Veritas Alta Data Protection from Insights with a selected time period contract where Insights addresses the issues we face, all included in the contract. I would rate this product a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Hybrid and multi-cloud backups have secured critical customer data and simplified disaster recovery
What is our primary use case?
I wanted to extend this to disaster recovery solutions in addition to data backup solutions, and that is where it came to my consideration, and I want to implement it for my customers.
There could be a scenario wherein I am hosting or taking a backup on a secondary location of the current data for my customers, and I want to retrieve it in the event of a crisis should there be the need.
I would like to have this extended to data backup as well. If I am taking a data backup and putting it in various locations, I want to first secure the data and then put the backups at certain locations.
I want to extend Veritas Alta Data Protection to my customers. All the customers who are with us have their legacy data and enterprise data, so we want to secure the data before the backup is taken and then extend it to the data backup locations, wherever we intend to place the data backups.
I hope Veritas Alta Data Protection will be able to be used for multi-cloud scenarios. If I have a multi-cloud setup, such as AWS and Azure, I will be able to extend this to customers from whom I can take backups at multiple locations.
I intend to use Veritas Alta Data Protection for my customers in multi-cloud scenarios, which could be a combination of private cloud and on-premise cloud with public cloud, making it a multi-cloud and potentially a hybrid cloud scenario.
What is most valuable?
I am aiming at first securing the data, which is paramount, and second, the data retrieval in the event of a crisis should the primary data center go down. The third priority is achieving this at a very affordable cost compared to other competition players with respect to this solution.
What needs improvement?
What other advice do I have?
Veritas Alta Data Protection is already a named leader in data protection and the features it offers, and I really hope forward that I will be able to extend the same facility and the same confidence to my customers.
I am considering buying Veritas Alta Data Protection for my customers.
I hope Veritas Alta Data Protection covers a facet of managed services, particularly extended for customers on the public cloud.
I believe it will focus on data and placing the data to the respective backup locations for faster retrieval in the event of a crisis.
I hope to see Veritas Alta Data Protection also covering cloud security posture management for AWS.
I would rate this product a 9 out of 10.
