Real User Here: They give us unmatched SQL Visibility That Pinpoints Slow Queries Fast

  • May 30, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The SQL-level visibility is unmatched. When something goes wrong, Scout connects surface-level symptoms directly to the exact query causing the problem — N+1 detection, slow queries, the works. Nothing else in our stack does this. These saved us multiple times...
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing we'd change is having more excuses to talk to their team. Great product, great people. Seriously, their people are amazing. They run a tight ship.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Without Scout, database-layer issues are invisible until users feel them. Scout gives us the visibility to catch and fix performance problems before they become incidents — especially critical for our booking and scheduling system where downtime or slowness has real consequences for medical practices. We can't afford this and will never be replacing them.

What do you like best about the product?
I use Scout Monitoring to monitor my web application on Ruby on Rails, and the MCP server capability is really good. I really enjoy the developer support and the developer experience; they are really attuned to my needs. The tech team is very responsive and bright. I find their customer service great, and it’s really easy to see everything at a glance. I also value the MCP servers and the alerts. The initial setup was very easy; it only took ten minutes, and I appreciate the better pricing and better support compared to other options.

Powerful Rails Insights, But the UI Needs a Modern Refresh

  • May 13, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Scout is built for Ruby and Rails rather than retrofitted onto it, and that focus shows up everywhere. Install is three lines in the Gemfile, a config file, and a deploy. You're looking at real data in about five minutes. N+1 detection and slow-query analysis are the killer features for any Rails app. Scout points you straight at the offending controller action and ActiveRecord call pattern, so you can land a fix in one pass. App traces give per-request code-level visibility that's been useful for chasing down regressions after deploys. Pricing is realistic for small and mid-sized teams in a way the Datadog and New Relic tier just isn't.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI is the main thing keeping this from a 5. It feels at least one generation behind where modern observability tooling has landed. Navigation is still mostly link-and-page-load rather than the fast, filterable, drill-down interactions you get from newer tools. Time-range manipulation, faceted filtering, and dashboard composition could all be much more interactive. None of this affects the quality of the underlying data Scout collects, but a UI/UX refresh would be the biggest single improvement they could ship.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Pinpointing N+1s and slow ActiveRecord queries before they turn into production incidents, and shortening the path from "something looks off" to "here's the line of code." Having traces, errors, and logs correlated in one place cuts context-switching during incidents. For a Rails-heavy stack, it's deeply integrated, and so it gives a better signal-to-noise ratio than the general-purpose APM vendors, with a fraction of the configuration overhead.

Dev-centric performance monitoring for Laravel applications. Their service automatically collects insights about performance issues and alerts you & your team.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be nice if it provided MySQL index insights. Like missing, duplicate or bad indexes.

Save time on optimization and identifying the slow code

  • August 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It gives you all the tools you need. You can analyze application performance, background jobs, database performance. you get traces of real users using your apps or APIs, ... What's not to like?
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing that could be improved is pricing. In my opinion, it's not up to par with some tools the bigger cloud providers have which do more or less the same thing. But, it's still worth it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Identifying slow parts of our API and background jobs. Identifying N+1 queries. Identifying slow database queries. Compare real traces from users so you get actual insights into real data not just aggregates.

Best performance monitoring tool

  • August 03, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Scout APM is the performance monitoring tool that we find most actionable. It's easy to drown in the data, rendering the tool useless. But Scout does a really good job of showing the right data that highlight the most pressing performance problems, so that you can use precious development time most effectively to fix them.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their error monitoring service is not (yet) feature-comparable with other specialised tools like Sentry.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Performance becomes an issue for any web application at some point. Scout APM:
- tracks the performance of our endpoints, both average as well as distribution to identify problematic sets of query parameters
- highlights the most problematic ones in terms of frequency called and response time
- identifies N+1 queries to the database
- highlights requests that are causing high memory usage

Great Rails Integration

  • July 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how they have closely integrated Rails into the whole tool. Features such as the slow query and N+1 query suggestions are great to have.
What do you dislike about the product?
They do not support JRuby. I've had to migrate a few apps away from them because of this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Application Performance Monitoring, they also have really good suggestions on how we can improve the speed of the app and also the problem points.
