What is our primary use case?
Flexera Cloud Cost Management is excellent for enterprise cost allocation and multi-cloud billing. At one of the companies I worked with, we used AWS and Azure, and what Flexera Cloud Cost Management does in this capacity is aggregate and translate bills into one single model.
For example, with NTT Data, we had AWS and Azure, so Flexera Cloud Cost Management was used in storage allocation and expense. It works with waste reduction and infrastructure resizing. For the engineers, we would leave expensive resources idle or underutilized, so we could continually audit the CPU and storage metrics to pinpoint zombie assets, particularly within storage. We had unattached disks, and there would also be cases that would impact something such as VMware.
What is most valuable?
The best features of Flexera Cloud Cost Management include the cross-provider dashboards. If you are using multiple cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or even Google Cloud, you can put it in one format, and you do not have any vendor silos. This allows leadership to aggregate cloud expenditure, run cloud comparisons, and manage governance policies. Additionally, the right-sizing and waste reduction with storage, VMs, and memory provide actionable recommendations for downsizing options.
Working on the engineering and administration side of infrastructure, I find resource optimization to be the most valuable feature of Flexera Cloud Cost Management on a day-to-day basis. There have been many times when storage would not be used or I would have zombie infrastructure with unattached disks, particularly within VMware, and that can be very costly, as everything is being underutilized and you do not even know it is there. This definitely was incredibly helpful for the infrastructure keepers.
Flexera Cloud Cost Management helps show what is being underutilized within the infrastructure, and it can also give you a billable unit across the different cloud platforms, effective rates of what you are spending per cloud, contract commitments, structures, and different outcome models based on savings and share pricing. These are things I would know sitting in meetings, so it definitely was a big help for the enterprise overall, from a business side as well as the infrastructure side.
What needs improvement?
It has been a while since I used Flexera Cloud Cost Management, and the features that I saw, I thought were great. I believe there is a model for a Spend Tier, and I believe they are looking into it, as it prices total gross cloud consumption, something that business management would examine. I think it is rather expensive, around 40,000 to 60,000 to have that feature, as well as the Asset Entitlement Scope, which tracks spending.
I cannot think of anything else regarding needed improvements for Flexera Cloud Cost Management.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started using Flexera Cloud Cost Management in 2017 and used it for a few years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Flexera Cloud Cost Management is very stable, as I did not have any issues with it, which is critical when testing hardware or software for stability, especially regarding how it looks into waste. It eliminated waste, resource sprawl, and any type of bill shock across AWS ecosystems, focusing on granular, actionable AWS infrastructure telemetry.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Flexera Cloud Cost Management is quite scalable, meaning how accurate cost allocation would be for automated data ingestion, especially when dealing with scaling challenges that come when a company is spinning up more accounts and projects. It has asynchronous pipeline ingestion.
How are customer service and support?
I never had any issues with customer support for Flexera Cloud Cost Management.
Regarding customer support, they provided online case management for active maintenance for their subscription plans, and they had a knowledge base and documentation, which many companies have. They also had account linking assistance to help users with any login issues or profile resets, and they had direct telephone support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
It was a decision to go with Flexera Cloud Cost Management because it is excellent, but there are others such as IBM, Broadcom's CloudZero, and numerous different solutions. It was a decision of the business leaders to bring that in, which did not mean we did not utilize others, but we brought this in.
How was the initial setup?
At that particular time, Flexera Cloud Cost Management was on-premises, and we used Azure and AWS. With AWS, it integrated cost and usage reports and pushed through the Amazon S3 bucket with the IAM cross-account roles for resource telemetry. For Azure, it connected with Enterprise Agreements and billing profiles, but we used it on-site with private cloud connectors. The way we rolled it out involved a centralized setup integrated with multi-cloud billing feeds, followed by tagging with allocation rules and governance policy automation, which was several different phases, three to five phases, I believe, focusing on governance and then engineering enablement.
What was our ROI?
The savings I saw from Flexera Cloud Cost Management include waste reclaim of idle IP addresses, EBS disk volumes, and overprovisioned virtual machines within the VMware environment, as these things drain budgets without being beneficial in any way. I definitely saw this quickly, and it absolutely maximizes the ROI for long-term commitments with AWS instances or Azure savings plans, making it a plus for container workloads as well.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I did not have anything to do with pricing, setup cost, or licensing, but I can provide some information on it.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Flexera Cloud Cost Management, I believe some of IBM's options were examined, and there were many different cost management tools considered such as SAP cost management. A lot of different options were reviewed and some were still being utilized while we brought in Flexera Cloud Cost Management to work within a particular aspect of the business.
What other advice do I have?
For others looking at Flexera Cloud Cost Management, I advise that you know your company's needs and consider pricing, what tier you need, and what that tier offers.
If you could adopt a hybrid posture with Flexera Cloud Cost Management, I would suggest it. I gave this review a rating of 8 out of 10.

What do you like best about the product?
Flexera One is a valuable tool that I use daily to support local IT operations. It provides a clear, organized, and easy-to-navigate view of our IT assets, helping us manage resources efficiently and maintain good visibility across the environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Flexera One offers a lot of capabilities, which is a strength, but it can take some time for new users to become familiar with all the available features. Some advanced reporting and dashboard options could be easier to configure, and certain data integrations may require additional setup efforts. Overall, these are minor challenges compared to the value the platform provides.

It gives us a single, reliable source of information about our IT assets. It helps me quickly identify devices, verify asset details, and support local IT operations more efficiently, saving time and improving visibility across the environment.

What do you like best about the product?
I am from Software Asset Management team, so my work all depends on managing SAM related activities. As part of SAM team, what I like most about Flexera One is how it gives us clear visibility into all our software licenses and installations in one place. I really like Application Recognition Library, which could automatically identify software applications from raw data and discoveries it, map it to publisher, product, version and edition. Instead of doing it manually, ARL does it automatically, which saves up a lot of time. I also Technopedia Library where I can lookup to resolve my doubts.
What do you dislike about the product?
To be honest I dislike Flexera User Interface-it feels a bit outdated and not very intuitive. When I am new to the tool, navigation is very confusing for me since some features are buried under multiple menus and it takes a while to find what you are looking for. After being used to the tool, it's comfortable now for me. But I suggest a more modern interface with simpler navigation would make overall experience a lot smoother.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Flexera One to find unused licenses, reducing costs and tracking unauthorized software used in our customer environment. I work in Ashland project, here we use Flexera tool as it made license management more organized and given our team more confidence during audits. Before Flexera, our biggest pain was not having a reliable inventory as we had software deployed across on-prem servers, laptops and cloud, and no single system tied entitlements to actual deployment and usage. Flexera One's discovery and inventory piece solved the visibility problem first - it pulls in data from our endpoints, servers and cloud, and then normalizes it, so we are not manually mapping. That normalization alone saved us a lot of manual reconciliation work. And on compliance side, Effective License Position (ELP) reporting is the biggest win of Flexera, I can say.

What do you like best about the product?
I like its automatic software asset normalization. Another feature I really appreciate is the top-notch recommendations for rightsizing Zloud infrastructure, including reusing unoccupied instances.
What do you dislike about the product?
Like almost any enterprise-grade software, it comes with an initial learning curve, and the team may need some time to adapt. In addition, setting up API connectors for each SaaS tool can be operationally expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before Flexera One, we had to manually license complex models; now it’s all automated.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the centralized view that Flexera One provides. It makes day-to-day software management much easier by having everything in one place. The visibility it offers into the software environment is great; it helps us track applications and understand license usage. It's much easier to identify underutilized software and find opportunities to optimize license costs. The centralized reporting and analytics make it simpler to manage renewals and make better licensing decisions based on accurate user data. This all leads to a more efficient software management process, as it reduces the need to gather information manually from different sources.
What do you dislike about the product?
One area that could be improved is the learning curve. Flexera One has a lot of capabilities, so it can take some time to understand all the features and configure the platform effectively. Some reports and workflows could also be more intuitive for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

The Gold Standard for License Management

What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate Flexera One for being the gold standard when it comes to tracking IBM, Oracle, and Microsoft. It's an officially certified replacement for the IBM License Metric Tool, which is a huge deal for us. It's also been formally verified by Oracle Global Licensing and Advisory Services. Plus, it automates the complex SQL Server core licensing rules for Microsoft, which is incredibly helpful. I also like that Flexera One automatically calculates effective license positions and can generate audit-ready reports, which saves us a lot of headaches. And I love how we can integrate it directly with ServiceNow CMDB to enrich our configuration items with normalization and lifecycle data, making our processes much more seamless. Lastly, even though the initial setup was complex, the integration process was fast, which was a big plus for me.
What do you dislike about the product?
Flexera One works well overall, but it's not plug and play and has onboarding complexity. The initial onboarding is quite heavy and requires significant technical preparation. Deploying the beacon architecture across segmented corporate networks and securing access from the security team takes longer than expected. The initial setup process is complex, although the integration was fast.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Flexera One to manage software deployments and licensing, protect against audits, and centralize hardware data. It automates license calculations and audit reports, and simplifies complex licensing for IBM, Oracle, and Microsoft.

What do you like best about the product?
At Cyberscout we have a mix of old on-prem stuff and cloud services and it was always a mess trying to track it all. Flexera pulls it together and shows you what's going on. The license management part is great, we found some duplicates we didn't even know we had. The FinOps piece helps me understand cloud spending better.
What do you dislike about the product?
The onboarding was tougher than I expected. There's so many features that it feels overwhelming at first and I definitely needed some handholding. Customizing reports was not as easy as I hoped, I ended up using the default ones mostly because I couldn't figure out how to tweak them the way I wanted. We also had some trouble pulling data from a couple of our older systems and had to do some manual work arounds. The cost is pretty high too which is always a concern.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used to have no real visibility into our IT assets and it was causing issues with compliance and overspending. Now we have a single dashboard that shows everything from our on-prem servers to our cloud data. It's helped us avoid some potential penalty situations and we've identified licenses we were paying for but not using. The cloud optimization tools let us allocate our budget smarter which is helpful for me when I'm planning new hires.

Accurate Entitlement Tracking and License Reconciliation at Scale

What do you like best about the product?
When we had a number of business units and wanted to track our software entitlements and infrastructure inventory to a fine degree of accuracy, Flexera’s Technopedia database normalized inconsistent raw data that originated in our hardware, cloud instances, and local devices. Our automated license reconciliation engine also allowed us to easily correlate difficult product use rights, sub-capacity concepts and vendor metrics like IBM PVUs or Oracle DB cores without the use of spreadsheets.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initial set up is definitely a significant hurdle especially if you're getting into custom data connectors, or complex policy settings for older non-standard applications. The UI is occasionally clunky due to how many sub-menus you have to dive through, and occasional minor API rate limits can sometimes hold up bulk dataset exports during busy reporting periods.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Flexera fixes the fragmentation in our IT estate by ingesting all those separate data sources into a unified source of truth, mitigates our audit risk by knowing our actual level of compliance rather than being surprised by multi-millions of dollars in vendor fines, and gives us the visibility to engineer to optimize how we systematically get back from wasted software licenses and overall tech spend.

What do you like best about the product?
I like Flexera One because it gives us distinct visibility into our cloud spending and usage, making it much easier to understand our memory expenditure and identify areas for cost optimization. Additionally, having the billing and usage information readily available in one place saves us time during cost reviews or when preparing reports. The centralized reporting and cost analysis provided by Flexera One have been especially useful for our team.
What do you dislike about the product?
One area that could be improved is the overall user experience. Some features can take a little time to understand, especially for new users. The reporting and data views could also be a bit more straightforward and customizable. It would also be helpful if some of the billing and usage data updates were available more quickly, as having more real-time information would make cost tracking and analysis easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I mainly use Flexera One to track our cloud usage and spending, providing visibility and helping optimize costs. It centralizes billing data, simplifying report preparation and cost analysis. However, the user experience and real-time data updates could be improved.
