HCL Technologies on AWS - 1PLMCloud

HCLTech 1PLMCloud enables mobility, reduces cost, and improves engineering productivity, agility, and scalability

Traditionally, manufacturing organizations have been cautious in migrating engineering applications to cloud due to concerns over performance, graphics intensive requirements, data security, reliability, and compliance. During the Covid-19 pandemic, engineering organizations experienced operational, security and performance challenges during access of design and product data stored in the product lifecycle management (PLM) environments and CAD files. Business continuity is at risk due to lack of optimal Engineering Research & Development (ER&D) infrastructure to support work from home (WFH).

HCLTech created the 1PLMCloud solution to support manufacturing companies in transforming their CAD and PLM infrastructure into an on-demand, scalable, and agile environment to drive the business innovation needs for the new normal. PLM is an information management system that integrates data, processes, business systems and people in an extended enterprise to plan, design and share innovation. It is relevant for industry verticals like automotive, industrial, aerospace, medical devices, semiconductor, telecommunications equipment, and office automation.

  • How it works
  • The solution offered by HCLTech on AWS is deploying newer services with high-end graphics-processing capabilities, utilizing NVIDIA Quadro Technology, enabling optimal performance, and leveraging CAD/CAE application certifications. HCLTech leverages the AWS global infrastructure backbone for low latency, and a reliable and predictable data exchange between carrier global sites for best user experience. Each carrier global site connects to AWS Direct Connect through VPN.

The HCLTech 1PLMCloud solution provides lift-and-shift, re-host, re-platform for engineering applications and workloads to AWS Cloud infrastructure. The offering is available for PTC Windchill, Creo, Thingworx, Siemens Teamcenter, NX, Polarion, Dassault 3DExperience, Catia, Solidworks, ARAS, and ANSYS. It offers flexibility of operations and commercial models. It enables engineering users to operate and access CAD and product information using Amazon AppStream 2.0, Amazon EC2, and other services with improved performance. It does not require high-end graphics workstations, thus improving mobility, work-from-anywhere, and security. There is no need to download CAD documents to user desktops / workstations.

Additionally, HCLTech provides a solution for graphic-intensive 3D CAD applications, like Siemens NX, PTC Creo, and Dassault Solidworks hosted on AWS NICE DCV. It offers a seamless high-performance experience for CAD engineers to enable flexible remote working.

HCLTech and AWS together to deliver the 1PLMCloud solution using AppStream 2.0, Amazon EC2, and other AWS services. AppStream 2.0 enables streaming of applications to user machines. Powered by powerful graphics-processing units from NVIDIA, and HCLTech’s experience and expertise in CAD and PLM, 1PLMCloud enables fast, secure, and high-performance CAD and PLM applications on the cloud, providing a seamless experience to the engineering community. The solution’s service catalogs provide a right mix of services to help enterprises plan the best cloud strategy for their business and pay per use of services. HCLTech has enterprise, standard and basic offerings designed for OEMs and tier-1 suppliers based on number of users, data capacity, geographical spread, and an SLA for resolution priority.
