Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so pricing scales with the compute power you choose. Smaller instances like t3.nano and t2.nano suit light workloads. Larger instances like m4.16xlarge, x1.32xlarge, and c4.8xlarge fit heavier compute needs. Instance families cover general purpose (t2, t3, t3a, m3, m4), compute optimized (c3, c4), memory optimized (r3, x1, cr1), storage (d2, hs1, i2, hi1), and GPU (g2, cg1). There is no upfront commitment; you pay only for the hours you use.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You get a self-contained stack that bundles the web server, database, and runtimes needed to run the applications. Everything is packaged together, so you launch it directly on an EC2 instance without installing dependencies separately. The vendor tracks releases and updates packaged apps when security issues appear.
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. Stopping the instance halts these hourly charges. However, stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes. The software meters running hours only, so paused workloads do not accrue software charges.
Yes. Each dimension maps to one instance type, and the hourly rate reflects that instance's compute power. If you move a workload from a t3.nano to an m4.16xlarge, you pay the rate tied to the new type. You pay only for the hours each instance runs.
