See AWS Free Tier for more details. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run, with no monthly subscription. Pricing scales with instance class and size. The t3 and t3a options are burstable general-purpose sizes, from micro up to 2xlarge. The m5 options cover balanced compute and memory, from large to 24xlarge. The c5 options target compute-heavy work, from large to 24xlarge. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. You stop billing for the software when you stop the instance. AWS hosting charges apply separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what am I billed for separately?
The hourly rate covers the pre-configured software stack and the included A51 management console. AWS hosting charges are billed separately by Amazon directly. When you stop the instance, you stop paying for the software, though AWS storage and other AWS resources may still accrue charges.
Am I charged when I stop the instance?
No software charges accrue while the instance is stopped. Billing for the stack runs only while the instance is running. You may still incur separate AWS charges for storage or other AWS resources tied to the stopped instance. Restart the instance to resume software billing.
Can I change to an instance type not listed in the pricing table?
Only the instance classes shown in the pricing table are available at deployment. You can contact the vendor to ask about other classes. The listed t3, t3a, m5, and c5 sizes each bill at their own hourly rate based on the size you choose.
