OpenEMR Cloud - Express Edition carries no software licensing fee. You pay only for the AWS EC2 compute you choose, billed hourly. The pricing dimensions are EC2 instance types, not feature tiers. Each option maps to a different instance size and family, spanning small general-purpose instances up to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-optimized machines. Cost scales with the instance you select: smaller instances cost less per hour, larger ones more. You match an instance to your practice's performance and capacity needs. The software itself stays free across every instance choice.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hourly charge reflects the AWS EC2 compute instance you run, matched to its size and family. The OpenEMR software carries no licensing fee. You still pay separately for AWS resources like EBS storage. Instance type sets the running cost; the application itself stays free.
Software charges meter running instance-hours only. When you stop an instance, hourly compute charges stop accruing. Since the OpenEMR software is free, no licence fee applies at any time. Stored data on EBS volumes may still incur AWS storage fees while the instance is off.
You select one instance type at a time, and its hourly rate applies while it runs. Switching to a larger family or size raises the hourly compute cost; a smaller one lowers it. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance. The software remains free across every choice.

What do you like best about the product?
OpenEMR is very robust and helps with scheduling, billing, client CRM, administration and many other very useful tools if you do not have another CRM or EMR in place.
What do you dislike about the product?
OpenEMR is far too vast to ever take advantage of all of it's features. Most people want an EMR that is easy to set up and get running. I think in this day and age that OpenEMR is just too rhobust
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
At the time and for many years we used OpenEMR to manage any of our non-county client records. The security was sufficient and the customizations that were in place were made well but it took a third party to get the customizations done and it cost more that we expected to meet our needs. I believe that many of the customizations we had build are now built into the newer versions. This review is on an older version and may not reflect your experiences. Even the older version was able to meet our needs so I am sure it has gotten even better.

What do you like best about the product?
Here are some of the main points I'd like to elaborate on. Open source allows me to tweak it independently and receive assistance from several people who enjoy contributing to this program.

What do you dislike about the product?
The primary problem I encounter—and I assume everyone else faces it as well—would be that some of the features are occasionally somewhat buggy. If you can't fix them independently, you must rely on the contributors, which takes time. This software's user interface (UI) is a little dated as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This tool meets all needs, from doctors, administrators, and patients to data security. Give you the ability to customize and add forms based on your requirement.
