You pay by the hour for the test runner instances you launch, billed per EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS instance size, from smaller general-purpose types to compute-optimized and memory-optimized types with more cores and RAM. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute for running distributed load tests. You choose the instance types that match your test scale and run them only while tests execute. There is no fixed tier; your cost scales with which instances you pick and how many hours you run them.

What does one hour of a test runner instance cover for billing?
You are billed per hour that a chosen EC2 instance runs your test. Test duration is the time your scenario runs on the runners, not startup or post-test processing. The minimum run duration is 15 minutes, then rounded to the nearest minute. You run instances only while tests execute.
Am I charged when a test runner instance is stopped or idle?
Hourly software charges apply only while an instance runs a test. When you stop an instance, software charges stop. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply through AWS. The meter tracks running time, so idle time between tests does not accrue software charges.
How do I decide which instance types to run, and can I combine several?
You pick instance types that match your test scale, choosing general-purpose, compute-optimized, or memory-optimized sizes. You can run multiple instances at once to spread load across a runner grid. Each running instance is billed separately by its own hourly rate, and the charges add together on your invoice.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. Usage instructions
Launch one or more test runners using this AMI and record the instance ids. Make sure instances are able to connect out to agents.testable.io on port 443.
Go to https://a.testable.io and navigate to Org Management => Test Runner Sources => Self-Hosted and press the "Register Test Runner" button.
Use the instance ids from step 1 to register the newly launched test runners. They will take a few minutes after launch to appear here. Group test runners into regions using a region name of your choosing.
Create a new test case and in the test configuration you will see the regions setup in step 3 in the Locations dropdown towards the bottom of the list. Load will be evenly distributed across the test runners registered in the selected regions.
