Tungsten Replicator for MongoDB Targets is a replication engine that provides high-performance and improved replication functionality into MongoDB. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the "Tungsten Replicator for MySQL Extraction" AMI to provide a full end-to-end, real-time, data replication pipeline.
Alternatively, it is also available as a stand-alone, commercial product with support that can be downloaded from the Continuent website with a valid customer agreement.
What does Tungsten Replicator do?
Tungsten Replicator provides data replication from MySQL, MariaDB & Percona Server, including Amazon RDS MySQL and Amazon Aurora, to high-performance data analytics engines to derive insight from big data for better business decisions.
More specifically, it supports real-time data replication into MySQL (all versions), Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS RedShift, Hadoop, MongoDB, Kafka and Vertica. We have an AMI for each of these targets available here on AWS.
This AMI supports replication into MongoDB only.

You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance running the MongoDB applier. Pricing tracks your chosen instance type, not a software tier. Options span general-purpose families (m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5d, m5n, m5ad, m5dn) and burstable t2/t3/t3a families. Sizes range from micro and small up to 24xlarge and bare-metal (metal) instances. Larger instances carry more compute, memory, and storage, so their hourly rate is higher. You run the software inside your own AWS environment. Choose the instance size that matches your replication workload and pay only for the hours it runs.

What does one hourly unit cover, and what must I supply myself?
One hourly unit covers the MongoDB applier software running on your chosen EC2 instance type. You are billed per hour that instance runs. The instance does not include database binaries for a locally hosted database; you configure any local database manually before install. The software runs inside your own AWS environment.
Am I charged when the EC2 instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges accrue per hour while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, hourly software charges stop. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply for a stopped instance, but the software meters running hours only. Pay for the hours the applier actually operates.
For a full replication pipeline, do I run more than one instance and pay for each?
Yes. A complete pipeline needs one source extraction host plus one or more target applier hosts. Each host runs on its own EC2 instance and bills separately per hour. Your total cost is the sum of the hourly charges for every running instance in the pipeline.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
By default, the AMI will launch with a 40Gb partition assigned to /opt/continuent. The software and associated logs will be generated here, therefore you should review the required storage space for this partition based on your activity levels. You should account for, at least the same amount of space used by your binary logs within the retention period of your source database.
Upon launch, connect to the host as the rocky using your preferred choice of Terminal application.
Issue the following command 'sudo su - tungsten' and the launch and setup wizard will automatically commence.
