What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Coursera for Business is to learn. Every three to four months, the industry changes, and new advanced learning and new advanced languages come to the market, so I need to stay up-to-date with that. I have been using it for the last three years.
Recently over the last two years, I moved into the product side in my current company, and I learned some skills in product management, such as wireframing and product roadmapping. I have used a few Coursera for Business courses assigned by my company for the same. I have learned about project roadmapping and what the pros and cons are, as well as what the pain points are that I need to understand as a product manager. Coursera for Business provided me deep learning for this. This is an example of a skill I have learned through Coursera for Business.
As a product manager, my responsibility is also to look for different courses so that I can assign them to new onboardings so they can learn our company rules, workflow, and the languages we use in our projects. These are some other use cases I can share.
What is most valuable?
The best features of Coursera for Business that come to my mind are, first of all, the top-notch content that Coursera is providing. There are other different platforms offering courses, but I personally prefer Coursera for Business most because it has great features such as deep analytics. I can search how many candidates have registered for the courses, how much time they have spent on our courses, what their assessment analytics are, and when they receive their certificates. Coursera for Business also allows us to conduct assessments; there are several exams in Coursera for Business. Coursera for Business detects face detection as well. These are a few best features that I appreciate the most. It has a very simple UI that anyone can understand. These are some best features I appreciate about Coursera for Business.
Absolutely, we use the analytics from Coursera for Business to track the progress of our users, or I can say of new onboardings. What we notice is that we assign the courses or directly ask the candidates to take the courses we offer when they are onboarded into our platform. After they start their courses, we can see how much of the course they have completed, how their performance is progressing, and what they are learning from that. We take assessments through Coursera for Business not daily, but weekly or monthly assessments. We assign monthly and weekly assessments to them to check how eagerly they are learning from them. These are a few insights that we, as a company or as product managers, use to make our decisions, such as which new onboardings we need to hire or which candidates we do not need to hire from a different count. These are some useful insights that Coursera for Business is providing us, which help me make my day-to-day decisions.
What needs improvement?
Coursera for Business is already a good platform providing top-notch content. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. Regarding the video streaming platform, I have noticed that the quality of content decreases with internet connectivity issues or low range of internet; the video quality tends to drop. I believe that if they provided an option to download all the course content, then if candidates are not connected to the internet, they could access the courses without interruptions. They should also ensure high-quality content throughout.
Additionally, I think there should be some free learning courses for candidates who cannot afford the fees that Coursera requires. This would help the community and the nation as candidates would be able to learn new technologies without having to pay for the courses.
Furthermore, enhancement of the certificates is required; the certificate should come with hyperlinks to provide detailed reporting of candidate performance within the courses. Currently, Coursera for Business only provides a certificate with the candidate's name and the course taken, but it lacks detailed reporting. I think they should integrate this reporting into their certificates. These are a few features I would like to see in the future.
For how long have I used the solution?
Five years ago when I was a student, I used Coursera for Business for my internal deep learning related to IT platforms, such as different programming languages like Java. After entering the IT industry, I used Coursera for Business through my company. My company has provided me several Coursera for Business projects to learn and to make coding projects.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
When many users are using the same course at the same time on Coursera for Business, there are some downtime issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before using Coursera for Business, I directly assigned mentors from different colleges or industries to train our employees. It was costly and time-consuming for us.
How was the initial setup?
For me, it is easy to adopt Coursera for Business, but for new onboarding or the team, there might be some confusion during the initial rollout. The challenges my team has encountered are that initially they are not able to understand how the flow works, how much time they need to spend on the courses, how the content is used by Coursera for Business, and what are the different video contents provided. After taking the courses, there are also questions about understanding the analytics provided, such as total marks and percentage in certificates.
What other advice do I have?
Coursera for Business saves our time and money significantly. It saves our time by about 25 to 30% because before that, our physical mentors used to teach our candidates or new onboardings. It took so much time and energy. Sometimes the mentors were unavailable or were on leave, which made it take a lot of time to complete the courses. However, after using Coursera for Business, everything is aligned; a bot is assigned to our candidates and they take the assessments and learn through the content. We have saved nearly 25 to 30% of time. Regarding money, it saved about 15 to 20% because before purchasing Coursera for Business, we had to assign multiple mentors for different technologies. We invested more money and finances in that. After taking Coursera for Business, we have saved about 15 to 25% in costs.
For onboarding and training efficiency, as I mentioned before, candidates are asked to take different courses before onboarding, and after completing their courses, we ask them technical or non-technical interview questions related to those courses. If a candidate has seriously attended the courses, they can answer those questions confidently in our interview. This approach makes our onboarding more efficient.
We measure the effectiveness of Coursera for Business in our organization by simply checking the analytics of candidates and how effectively they are using the courses. Some metrics we use include how much time they are spending on courses, how much money we are consuming, and how much finance we are allocating towards buying courses for our employees and new onboardings. These are a few metrics we utilize from Coursera for Business.
We have used a public cloud to deploy Coursera for Business in our organization. We have purchased Coursera for Business through the AWS Marketplace . The management of user access and permissions for Coursera for Business in our organization is handled by our IT team. They decide the access and permissions to provide our new onboardings and employees to learn from Coursera for Business courses. My overall review rating for Coursera for Business is 8.
